Dass da unten immer wieder einige zur Stärkung ihres Egos mit unqualifizierten Äusserungen dazwischenfunken ist zwar ärgerlich u. geht auch mir schwer auf den Sack.Dadurch kommt es zwar zu Verzögerungen,das Endergebnis,die Wiedereröffnung wird davon trotzdem nicht tangiert.

PS Auch ein Festtagsbraten braucht auf Bougainville etwas mehr Aufwand als hier fertig gegrillte Spareribs im Supermarkt zu kaufen.

Nun kommt Fortuna und gibt den Menschen Arbeit – und hilft der Gemeinde. Gründer und Vorstandschef Jorge Ganoza bringt die Infrastruktur auf Förderniveau. Es gibt Bau­material für neue Dorfküchen, Sanitäranlagen und Wassertanks auf Firmenkosten. Ganoza entstammt selbst einer Bergbaufamilie. Er weiß, wie wichtig es ist, die Bewohner auf seiner Seite zu haben. „Das Letzte, was man will, sind Probleme mit der Gemeinde“, erklärt Manager Carlos Baca. Sein Konzern betreibt in Peru bereits eine Mine, die Silber, Zink und Blei fördert. Jetzt hat Fortuna seinen zweiten Betrieb in San José fast fertig. Im August soll die erste Unze verkauft werden.
Fortuna ist nur ein Beispiel unter vielen.

Also soweit ich das mitbekomme, zahlt BCL schon beträchtliche Summen für diverse Infrastrukturmaßnahmen. Vielleicht sollte man der Bevölkerung mal klarmachen, was passiert wenn BCL sich gänzlich verabschiedet.

Bleibt zu hoffen, dass dieses Engagement in den Köpfen der Bevölkerung - und zwar weiter Teile - präsent ist und inzwischen nicht als "Normalität", die sozusagen vom Himmel fällt, vorausgesetzt wird.

Vieles von dem, was schon über Generationen geht, droht in Vergessenheit zu geraten, wenn man nicht ab und zu mal daran erinnert.

Ein Grossteil der "High Educated Bougainvilleans" konnte auf ein BCL/BCF Stipendium zurückgreifen,auch die jüngeren Jahrgänge während der "Crisis"

The ABG President JOHN MOMIS clarified that his requests for the NINETEEN PERCENT share from the National Government was for and on behalf of the people of Bougainville including the Panguna Landowners.

He told a Press conference in Buka this morning, that as the President of Bougainville he was mandated to speak on behalf of his people.

And that include the Atolls, Buka, Siwai, Kunua and others districts.

MR. MOMIS was also responding to calls made by a Landowner based in Port Moresby, LAWRENCE DAVEONA.

MR. DAVEONA wanted the President not to talk on this issue which is only for the landowners.

MR. MOMIS said that any negotiation on the future of Panguna would be addressed by all Bougainvilleans, including our former combatants.

He called on MR. DAVEONA not to use the issue for his own gains.

Die Ergebnisse des nächste Woche hoffentlich stattfindenden JSB Meetings abwarten und bei dem im Anschluss geplanten Landeignermeeting zu dem laut F.S. Momis seine Teilnahme schon zugesagt hat einen tragfähigen Konsens finden (landläufig auch Reconciliation genannt)

Danach steht dann der gemeinsamen BCA Review zum Wohle aller Bougainviller nichts mehr im Wege.;-))))))))))))

Die nächsten 2 Wochen werden auf jeden Fall spannend werden.

A call has been made to MR. LAWRENCE DAVEONA to compensate Bougainvilleans who were killed and properties destroyed during the Bougainville conflict.

A senior Bougainville citizen, who wants to remain anonymous told New Dawn FM that MR. DAVEONA ‘s challenge to the ABG President did not go well to many citizens of Bougainville.

The citizen said that Panguna issue is for all Bougainvilleans including our former combatants who fought to defend Panguna.

He called on MR. DAVEONA to apologize to the ABG President for unnecesarily attacking him on the media.

.........through their respective PMALOA comprising their six associations. The sooner they make peace with the President and ABG the more further movement forward we will see. It's not going to haqppen overnight, it is incremental as it has been since 2005 but the optimism is "we will get there." And we will.

Ohne LD würde komplett hinter den Kulissen gemauschelt u. die Landeigner hätten überhaupt keine Stimme. Er war es der Semoso zur Unterstützung der Landeigner überzeugt hat,ansonsten hätte das grosse Landeignermeeting in Buka ende letzten Jahres überhaupt nicht stattgefunden.(zu denen Momis demonstrativ fernblieb)
Dann  hat er die ersten Panguna Reconciliations organisiert.

Ok, die Reaktion auf den Fakt dass Momis über den PNG Anteil an BOC verhandelt ohne die Landeigner,denen ein Teil zusteht zu konsultieren mag etwas überzogen wirken.Trotzdem hat er wohl die Sympathie der allermeisten hier.

Was hat Momis denn in seiner Amtsperiode bis jetzt geleistet?

Einen medienwirksamen Chinatrip, der einigen Ex-Kombattanten die Augen geöffnet hat.Was aus den Mous u. LoIs mit den Chinesen wird sollte sich erst noch zeigen.

Finanziell haben die Somare-Visiten anscheinend nix gebracht.

Wenn Momis jedoch beim JSB Meeting mit seiner "Allumfassenden Lösung" durchkommt,hätte das antichambrieren zwischen den beiden alten Politfüchsem zum Erfolg geführt. ;-)))))

also ich bin der Meinung, dass eine allumfassende Lösung unbedingt gegeben sein muss. Alle Beteiligten wissen ganz genau, dass sie Ihren Anteil vom Kuchen, VOR dessen Verteilung sichern müssen, sonst werden die wieder ausgetrickst. Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass die allumfassende Lösung jetzt schon gelingt. Aber ohne geht es nicht. Was haben die Landeigner zu verlieren? Wenn sich die Sache noch ein Weilchen zieht ist doch auch nicht so schlimm - dann profitiert die nächste Generation eben mehr.

Rio Tinto Group, the world’s third- largest mining company, forecast high copper prices will continue before supplies from new projects damp the market.

“We will see a continued period of strong copper pricing, largely because many of the large mines, including our own, are seeing declining grades, deepening pits,” Tom Albanese, chief executive officer of London-based Rio Tinto, told Australian Broadcasting Corp.’s Inside Business television program.

Copper in London surged to a record last week and gained 52 percent in the past year as the global economic recovery gathered pace. The global supply deficit will reach 822,000 metric tons in 2011, more than double last year’s shortfall, Barclays Capital said on Jan. 20.

“We’re working on several new projects around the world and I know, certainly our competitors are working on their own projects,” Albanese said in a transcript of the program, which was broadcast today. The longer that copper prices stayed at high levels, the more new supply would be induced, he said.

Three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange gained 0.2 percent to close at $9,961 a ton on Feb. 11 after rallying to an all-time high of $10,160 on Feb. 7. Rio Tinto rose 1.6 percent to 4,623.5 pence at the 4:30 p.m. close of trade in London.

Rio Tinto’s expansion plans include the Oyu Tolgoi copper project in Mongolia, while the company also had “additional opportunities” in South America and North America and at its Northparkes mine in Australia’s New South Wales state, he said.

Record Profit

Rio Tinto posted record 2010 net income of $14.3 billion on Feb. 10, boosted by iron ore and copper prices. The company raised its dividend and announced a $5 billion share buyback.

The 2010 global refined copper deficit is expected to increase through 2011 and 2012, leading to more talk about substitution with other materials, Rio Tinto Chief Economist Vivek Tulpule said in a report released with the earnings.

“The prospects of rapid and significant material switches are expected to be limited in the near term given the substitution that has already taken place,” he said. The introduction of exchange-traded funds in copper could also have a “significant impact” on copper prices in the coming year by adding to investment demand, Tulpule said.

Consumption trends over the next 15 to 20 years would lead to a doubling in demand for iron ore, copper, aluminum and other commodities, Albanese said in a results briefing on Feb. 10.

A meeting is planned next week in Arawa in the autonomous Papua New Guinea province of Bougainville to discuss landowner concerns around the upcoming review of the Bougainville Copper Ltd agreement.

Some landowner leaders say the President of the Autonomous Bougainville Government John Momis has not been consulting them over the bid to secure the transferral of the PNG government’s 19 percent share in BCL to the ABG.

Theresa Jaintong from the Arawa landowners association says a meeting is scheduled for February 23rd:

“And we would like to see all the leaders, including the national parliamentarians and ABG, our members on Bougainville and also the president and also the regional member Fidelis Semoso. We’d like them all to come to Arawa so we can strike a... you know, instead of fighting in the media because is won’t work that way.”
President Momis denies that he’s not consulting landowners.

He says the bulk of the people on Bougainville want the mine to be reopened, and that the ABG is working to ensure equitable sharing among landowners.

Der drei-Monats-Kontrakt stieg an der LME um 1,1 Prozent auf 10.075 US-Dollar je Tonne. Auch in Shanghai stieg der Preis für das Metall deutlich an. Dort bezahlten die Anleger 76.270 Yuan je Tonne, ein Plus von 750 Yuan gegenüber Freitag. Nach jüngsten Daten aus China ist der Kupfer-Import um 5.7 Prozent gestiegen. Dies hat viele Marktteilnehmer überrascht. Tatsächlich importierte China 364.240 Tonnen im Januar, im Dezember waren es 344.558 Tonnen. Wir wissen nicht, ob die Käufe strategischer Natur waren, zum direkten Verbrauch bestimmt waren, oder dazu dienen sollen, die Lagerbestände wieder aufzustocken, sagte Ben Westmore von der National Australia Bank gegenüber Reuters.

I read from this news web a lot of criticisms about how others see the President going in relation to the process or possibility of reopening the Panguna Mine. One viewpoint, I think, in this week's Wednesday or Thursday's National Newspaper has been quite critical about the President, in terms of accusing him of contributing to the uprising that cost many lives. Wherever blame is justifiably due, that is fair enough, but I believe we must all rise and discuss issues objectively without letting traditionally personalised political biases getting in our thinking as we struggle to build our place. Let us be careful about ourselves and argue in a rational way. Let us not get stuck in the past and let past feelings or biases come to the fore and blur our thinking. At this point in time, the region needs cooperation and intellectually constructive criticisms. Blaming the President will do nobody any good. What is it that we are trying to prove by dwelling in the past and making all sorts of negative comments? Let us open up and offer constructive ideas about how we think things should be handled, whether as landowners, individuals or other people-representative groups. The President's door is public. It may even be a good idea to hold a major stakeholder meeting within the region to solicit public views about how to go about things in a generally acceptable way.

I believe if the right people advise the President in relation to mining, he will listen and follow the right things that he must do, especially right advice given by good people unburdened by traditional political prejudices instead of numskulls who will only sew seeds of confusion.

We respect our brothers and sisters in the Panguna region where the concerned mineral resources are located as the traditional resource owners, but at the same time, all of us have a say by extension as ultimately we will all be affected in one way or another as we have just experienced.

The President has always fought for the rights of the small people throughout PNG and the region. Therefore, I believe he will be the last person to be ignoring the sensivity of the Panguna mining issues. His fight for the rights of the small people has always been consistent with his convictions and principles of justice. Therefore, it cannot be that, now that a leader known to have fought all his life for the marginalised in society has suddenly decided to change his mind to deliberately act in ignorance of the common good and the principles he has stood for throughout his entire political career.

If the representatives of the landonwers are not opening up, they must open up and involve themselves in a constructive manner with the President and his government. However, this may be difficult to happen if some of those who act as representatives of landowners blame the President as an instigator of the uprising irrespective of the truth content of such claims. Therefore, I believe we may need to overcome certain barriers in order to constructively consolidate our efforts to drive development activities in the region as a united force. In saying what I am saying, I assume that it is not the case that the government is not listening or ignoring the grievances of the people directly affected by the Panguna mining activities but that possibly some foolish interventions may be happening within the landowning leadership which has the potential to obstruct dialogue to the detriment of constructive progress in Panguna mining talks.

The claim that the President helped instigated the uprising, especially during the 1987 election is quite common. But it is always good to see how true we may be, because, in general, one can still wonder whether, if there were no 1987 elecetion, the uprising will still have happened or, whether the uprising will not have happened if John Momis had not said what he said during the 1987 election. The point is that we need to be critical in our analysis of the development of the events on Bougainville which eventually transpired in an uprising in 1988. As the President himself said it in this week's National Newspaper, he only read the 'signs of the times' or, merely predicted what was coming. Thus, it does not appear meaningful nor, make much sense for a people to character-assasinate or do other bad things to their leader who foresaw things and told them about what was coming because the national government was not doing what it was supposed to do since the Panguna mine started operating. I believe John Momis did all he could, as a national member, to get the national government to review the Bougainville Copper Agreement but to no avail, perhaps, due to the government getting fixated on pressing issues at certain points in time or for whatever reasons. By addressing issues together, we will move forward together.
