Corn harvested for grain was at 90 percent, above last year's 74 percent
and the 5-year average of 86 percent.zumindest in Wisconsin
Record corn harvest in southern Minnesota No one is exactly sure what sort of biological alchemy produced a crop of almost freakish size. It seems a once in a lifetime mix of plentiful rain and a really long growing season, through mid-October in much of southern Minnesota, produced the monster yields.

The USDA's November estimate for Ukraine corn production for 2005/06 is 6.5 million tons from harvested area of 1.6 million hectares. Yield is estimated at 4.06 tons per hectare -- the highest yield on record -- and harvest-progress reports from the Ministry of Agriculture indicate that final yield could climb even higher. This year's outstanding yield is chiefly the result of adequate and timely rainfall during the growing season followed by remarkably dry harvest weather.
