V.I. Technologies (VITX: news, chart, profile) rallied 4.5 percent to $1.39 and Orchid Biosciences (ORCH: news, chart, profile) tacked on 2.6 percent to $1.60. Digital Angel (DOC: news, chart, profile), which sell FDA-approved microchips that are implanted in animals and can be used for tracking purposes, ran up 16 percent to $4.60. Food Technology Service (VIFL: news, chart, profile), which provides commercial food irradiation services, gained 6.6 percent to $1.30.

Also in biotech, Ireland's Trinity Biotech (TRIB: news, chart, profile) soared $1.91, or 58 percent, to $5.19 after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the company's Uni-Gold Recombigen HIV test.

FDA clears Chromavision to market breast cancer test (CVSN) By Michael Baron NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Chromavision Medical Systems (CVSN) received 510(k) clearance to market its ACIS system to perform tests for breast cancer patients from the Food and Drug Administration. The approval covers marketing of the ACIS imaging system, which detects the HER2 protein, for use in determining the appropriate course of treatment for the patients. The stock closed Monday at $1.23, down a penny.
