Vom Graphit-Boom profitieren: Standard Graphite

Der kanadische Junior hat die Exploration auf einigen seiner Projekte in Ontario und Quebec erfolgreich begonnen. Standard Graphite hat wie Focus Metals und Northern Graphite ebenfalls an der ersten Graphit-Konferenz in Vancouver, am 23. Februar, teilgenommen und konnte sich über großes Interesse erfreuen. Der Fahr- und Arbeitsplan für 2012 steht, und es werden viele ereignisreiche Entwicklungen in Aussicht gestellt.

- Antoine Fournier (Chefgeologe): Mr. Fournier gehört zu den besten Geologen im Graphit-Sektor. Er kann über 20-jährige Erfahrungen im High-Tech Metal Sektor zurückblicken, und war in die Exploration von vielen strategischen Rohstoffen involviert. Mr. Fournier machte sich u.a. in den letzten Jahren einen Namen, als er das hochgradigste Graphit-Vorkommen der Welt entdeckte: Das Lac Knife Graphite Deposit. Dieses Vorkommen besitzt der kanadische Graphit-Junior Focus Metals. Für Standard Graphite sind die Kompetenzen und das Engagement von diesem erfolgreichen Geologen natürlich ein besonderer Vorteil. Erstens aufgrund der erfolgreichen Historie von Mr. Fournier, und zweitens weil es kaum wirkliche Graphit-Experten unter den Geologen bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt gibt.

     

- Alan Hitchborn (Director): Mr. Hitchborn ist seit 32 Jahren in der Rohstoffindustrie tätig. Er hat bei Placer Dome in alle wichtigen Bereiche eines Rohstoffunternehmens gearbeitet. Er kennt sich nicht nur in der Exploration und Entwicklung von Rohstoffprojekten aus, sondern weiß  auch wie man die Projekte in Produktion bringt. Er war lange Zeit der Chefgeologe von von Placer Dome’s Bald Mountain Mine. Placer Dome ist ein der großen Erfolgsgeschichten im kanadischen Gold-Sektor. Das Unternehmen wurde 2005 von Barrick Gold für mehr als 9 Milliarden US Dollar übernommen. Mr. Hitchborn war außerdem für die Entdeckung des 2 Millionen Unzen (Gold Äquivalent) Projektes von Kimber Resources verantwortlich.

 

- Michael Philpot (Director): Ebenfalls ein erfahrener Mann. Arbeitet seit 28 Jahren im Rohstoffsektor. Heute ist er Vize-Präsident von Coro Mining, die er auch mit gegründet hat. Mit Coro will Mr. Philpot seine Erfolge bei Milliardenkonzern First Quantum Minerals wiederholen. Coro verfügt bereits über eine Kupfer-Ressource im Milliarden-Pfund Bereich und Mr. Philpot hat erfolgreich viele Top-Manager von First Quantum zu Coro geholt. Die starken Verbindungen zu diesem großen Rohstoffproduzenten sind natürlich auch für Standard Graphite wertvoll.

   

 - Terese J. Gieselman (CFO): Mehr als 22 Jahre Erfahrungen im Rohstoffsektor. Ms. Gieselman war als CFO, Kassenführerin und Sekretärin für viele Rohstoffunternehmen tätig, die an der TSX, TSX-Venture, AMEX und an der NASDAQ gelistet waren.

 

- Patrick Downey (Beratungsgremium): Mit Stephen Stanley die jüngsten Neuaufnahmen von Standard Graphite. Mr. Downey ist gegenwärtig CEO und Präsident von Elgin Mining, die gerade einen Unternehmenszusammenschluss mit dem Produzenten Gold-Ore Resources durchführen. Mr. Downey war bei etlichen Erfolgsstories in der Vergangenheit dabei und hatte in diesen Unternehmen Führungspositionen. So war er bsp. CEO, Präsident und Director bei Aura Minerals. Einen besonders erfolgreichen Deal konnte er auch als CEO und Präsident mit Viceroy Exploration erzielen, die für rund 600 Millionen US Dollar von Gold-Produzent Yamana Gold im Jahr 2006 aufgekauft wurden. Seinen größten Deal erzielte Mr. Downey bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt mit Oliver Gold und Trillion Resources. Nach deren Zusammenschluss war er als damaliger Präsident für die 800 Millionen US Dollar teure Übernahme von Canico Resources mitverantwortlich. Diese Erfolgsbilanz kann sich mehr als sehen lassen. Für Standard Graphite ist Patrick Downey ein großer Zugewinn. Interessant ist außerdem, dass sich der CEO Chris Bogart und Patrick Downey seit vielen Jahren kennen. Sie arbeiten u.a. bei Corex Gold  auch zusammen. Ein eingespieltes Team ist damit für Standard Graphite noch viel mehr wert!

 

- Stephen Stanley (Beratungsgremium): Ein weiterer große Name, der Standard Graphite in Person vor kurzer Zeit beigetreten ist. Mr. Stephen Stanley kann ebenfalls auf eine eindrucksvolle Erfolgsbilanz im Graphit-Sektor zurückblicken. Seinen größten Coup landete Mr. Stanley erst vor ein paar Monaten. Er war CEO und Präsident von Hathor Exploration, die das Objekt der Begierde in einen wahren Übernahmekampf zwischen Rio Tinto und den größten Uran-Produzenten der Welt (Cameco) gewesen ist. Rio Tinto entschied nach mehrmaliger Erhöhung des Kaufpreises das Rennen dann für sich und kaufte sich Hathor Exploration mittels einer 650 Millionen US Dollar schweren Übernahme. Ein genialer Schachzug von Standard Graphite’s CEO Chris Bogart, diesen erfolgreichen Mann an Bord geholt zu haben.

 

 

Sehr positiv ist auch die enge share structure von Standard Graphite. Es sind nur knapp 22 Millionen Aktien ausstehend, und ein Großteil von diesen Aktien wird von Insidern, Family & Friends gehalten. Im Peer Group Vergleich kann Standard Graphite durch diese Aktienstruktur besonders glänzen. Es gibt nahezu kein Graphit-Unternehmen, das eine ähnlich vorteilhafte Struktur vorweisen kann. Die enge Struktur hilft vor allem hinsichtlich der Performance-Potentiale und zeigt, dass der Wert nicht verwässert ist und das Management auf eine schlanke Struktur wert legt.  Standard Graphite hat im Januar eine Privat-Platzierung durchgeführt und erfolgreich 1,5 Millionen US Dollar eingenommen. Sie gaben 6 Millionen Aktien zu 0.25 CAD aus, mit einem halben Warrant pro Share und einem strike von 0,40 kanadischen Dollar. Gegenwärtig hat Standard  noch rund 1,2 Millionen US Dollar in der Kasse. Sie planen bis Sommer die ersten Bohrprogramme auf den Projekten zu starten und werden dafür dann in den nächsten Monaten Geld einsammeln müssen. Aufgrund der schlanken Struktur und der guten Performance wird man die Verwässerung relativ gering halten können. Das visieren mit Sicherheit auch die Verantwortlichen an.

Am 23. Februar fand im kanadischen Vancouver die erste reine Graphit-Konferenz statt. Zahlreiche Unternehmen aus dem Sektor nahmen teil, neben den größeren und fortgeschrittenenen Graphit-Companies wie Northern Graphite und Focus Metals, war auch  Standard Graphite bei diesem interessanten Event dabei. Ryan Fletcher gilt als einer der Graphit-Experten und Vorreiter in diesem Sektor. Mit Zimtu Capital führt er gerade einige Graphitprojekt-Transaktionen durch, und auf der Graphit-Konferenz in Vancouver hat er ebenfalls als 'key note speaker' gesprochen. Seine Einschätzungen dürften von vielen Investoren verfolgt werden.

But more importantly, the company added Antoine Fournier to the team. A geologist, he was part of the field team that discovered the project that Focus is advancing, Lac Knife. Standard Graphite. . .has a market cap of about $5M, in comparison to the $30-60M for some of the bigger players. There's a lot of leverage for investors and a lot of opportunity when you take something that has a bit of information with the right team and make a new discovery. You can create a lot of value under those circumstances. Standard Graphite will be working to do just that."

The airborne survey consists in flying some 930 line kilometres at low altitude to measure the bedrock conductivity (TDEM) and magnetic properties. Graphite is a mineral with unique physical properties and is well known for its high conductivity. The survey has been designed to optimize the response from potential conductors and to discriminate between the types of conductors. The TDEM instrument used in the airborne survey is equivalent although more powerful to the one used during the ground test. Results from the airborne survey are expected in March and will form the backbone of the upcoming prospecting, trenching and drilling programs planned in Quebec for 2012.

Standard Graphite mit einem starken Intraday-Reversal heute, nachdem wohl eine SL-Welle ausgelöst wurde. Der TSX-V heute stärker unter Druck, viele Junior-Aktien lassen kräftig federn.

Das Thema Graphite wird auch an der PDAC Hoch im Kurs sein, die gegenwärtig stattfindet. Evtl. sehen wir hier noch positive Impulse, obwohl der Start der PDAC bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt überhaupt nichts positives für die Rohstoff-Indizes mit sich brachte.

James West hat gestern bei BNN's Market Call teilgenommen, an der er sich u.a. auch positiv über den Graphit-Sektor geäußert hat. Nach Mr. West ist die Graphit-Story erst in den Anfängen, er sieht großes Potential.

Graphite is the next big thing, according to one popular commodities watcher.

At PDAC in Toronto, Mickey Fulp, geologist and editor, Mercenarygeologist.com, tells BNN the demand boom that happened with rare earths a couple of years ago is what he’s seeing right now with graphite.

“There’s a buzz about graphite, and I have to say that every shark, charlatan and snake oil salesman near Coal Harbour and Vancouver is looking for a graphite play to roll into his next company right now,” Fulp says.

He points to calls from Chinese graphite producers to introduce export quotas on the mineral as being “very bullish” for graphite.

Durch diesen Ausgabekurs halten sie die Verwässerung trotz ordentlicher PP-Summe relativ gering. Das ist ausgesprochen positiv. Das beste an der Finanzierung ist aber nicht das reine Geld für den Graphit-Wert, sondern die Kapitalgeber. Die renommierte kanadische Finanzboutique Sprott und der Top-Investor Rick Rule kaufen sich nun verstärkt in Northern Graphite ein. Diese Nachricht dürfte Wellen schlagen, und einen positiven Einfluss auf alle Graphit-Werte haben. Denn Sprott und Rule investieren bekanntlich (meistens) nur in wirklich solide Werte und Branchen.

 

Northern Graphite Corporation (TSX VENTURE:NGC)(OTCQX:NGPHF) announces that it plans to complete a non-brokered private placement of up to 5,882,353 common shares at a price of C$1.70 per share for gross proceeds of up to C$10 million. The shares issued under the placement will be subject to a four month hold period from the date of closing. The placement is subject to the approval of the TSX Venture Exchange. An affiliate of the Sprott Group of Companies and Geologic Resource Partners LLC have agreed to subscribe for C$7.5 million of the placement..

BNN-Interview mit James West - Graphit-Sektor und Standard Graphite

James West, Portfolio Advisor to the Midas Opportunity Fund, was interviewed on BNN during PDAC on March 5, 2012 regarding market opportunities. Mr. West talked about the opportunity in graphite and the importance of investing in safe mining-friendly jurisdictions. James West emphasized that Standard Graphite has exceptional properties and identified SGH.V as his #1 graphite sector selection, stating "at this point my money is on Standard Graphite".

Producers of the strategic mineral, which is used alongside lithium in batteries which power laptops, smartphones and electric vehicles, recently said that rising interest in the mineral has led to environmentally-dangerous practices and even smuggling. The price of graphite has increased by 140% since January last year - but rampant illegal mining has created a stable supply situation, producers warned. This means that if controls are imposed, prices could follow the same track as rare earths.

"The Chinese only impose graphite restrictions through VAT and an export tax. But their past policy on strategic raw materials is to severely limit them through a rare earth style quota scheme and redirect use into its domestic economy," Moores said.

"Once the government realises the critical role of graphite in existing and new technologies, the situation is likely to become worse before it gets better," he added.

When China curbed exports in rare earths in 2010, of which it produces 96% of demand, prices of the strategic mineral rocketed.

This week Simon Moores, of Industrial Minerals, spoke to The Times about the possibility of China tightening its grip on the graphite market.

At each stage of exploration a re-rating and re-ranking of the properties will occur, a methodical process that mitigates risk and maximizes the probability of achieving the desired outcome of drilling to resource the top prospect evidencing grade, flake distribution, purity, and tonnage.

The breadth of properties SGH.V has in its portfolio gives it additional derisking as it need not be forced to make one project work, it has choice. SGH.V is only looking at projects that are amenable to large flake graphite, only open pit targets, and they must have the parameters that will be needed for a viable graphite deposit. In Ontario their properties are located in the Ottawa Valley proximal to Northern Graphite's Bisset Creek mine (the best known near term large flake production story) and the Kearney mine of Ontario Graphite. In Quebec SGH.V has properties near Timcal's Lac des Iles (Canada's largest graphite producer) and Focus Metals' LacKnife. Even the difference and choice for investors between the established participants, Northern Graphite and Focus Metals, is an example of the option of choice SGH.V may well likely have for industry participants to choose from the two kinds of deposits; one being more disseminated, larger flake (Northern Graphite) vs. more concentrated/narrower and lower distribution (Focus).

Highly anticipated results are currently pending for airborne electromagnetic (EM) survey on SGH.Vs Black Donald graphite property which strategically surrounds the past producing Black Donald Graphite Mine in Ontario. By the end of March 2012 EM surveys will have been completed on a majority of SGH.V's properties, after which the data will be analyzed for a ground sampling and trenching program. The properties will be re-ranked again after the ground work and short listed for exploration. A small drill program on a handful of targets on maybe 5 or 6 properties will then set up for the selection of a flagship to take to resource -- exhibiting the best grade, flake distribution, purity, and tonnage.

Shares outstanding: ~22.2M (~31.9M fully diluted). These are early days and the movement in graphite is in its infancy, shares of SGH.V near 58 cents (under CDN$13M market cap) have the potential for significant upside revaluation (with the tight share structure shares of SGH.V are apt to rise on bullish news). Mining MarketWatch Journal notes that both Bisset Creek and Lac Knife were drilled to resource for ~8,000 metres, so it is estimated SGH.V's entire program will be only ~$5 million (including work done to date) to take to resource on its best prospect. With prices for large flake graphite close to US$3,000 per tonne and a concern for graphite supply chain interruptions on the horizon for industrial end uses, the prospects for SGH.V shareholders appear highly favorable as it rapidly advances its graphite projects.

Standard Graphite

Vancouver-based Standard Graphite (TSX-V:SGH) takes the cake when it comes to sheer number of properties. The company holds one hundred percent interest in twelve graphite properties spanning from Quebec and Ontario.

Standard’s two Ontario properties have proven histories, with one of the properties surrounding the former Black Donald Mine. This mine was previously one of the largest and richest graphite mines in North America with an average grade of 25%-30% Cg during its last ten years in operation. The Little Bryan property, previously explored by Harrington Sound Resources in 1989 has shown average historic samples of 10.94% Cg in large flakes.

The company’s nine Quebec properties have not yet been explored by modern methods though assays have displayed grades of up to 30% Cg and high-grade shist/marble lithologies favourable for in-demand large flake graphite. 2012 will see Standard Graphite completing an aggressive exploration strategy on all twelve of its properties. The airborne EM survey, which has already commenced, will be followed by detailed ground geophysics, metallurgical testing and a five to six target drill program ultimately leading to resource development.

Standard’s management team is lead by President, CEO and Director Chris Bogart, whose extensive experience spans resource finance, business development, strategic planning and corporate restructuring. He is also the President of Metals Mgmt Group and was Co-Founder of Magnum Uranium. Also on the team are Antoine Fournier M.Sc., Chief Geologist—on the geologic team that discovered Standard’s Lac Knife deposit; Michael Philpot MBA, Director; and Alan Hitchborn P.Geo, Director.

Nach einer sagenhaften Rally ist die gegenwärtige Konsolidierung mehr als gesund. Nachdem es in wenigen Monaten rund 500% aufgrund guter Forschritte und dem ersten Hype in dem neuen Trend-Sektor aufwärts ging, kühlen jetzt die Indikatoren merklich ab. Standard Graphite scheint eine Konso auf hohem Niveau gerade durchzuführen. Dieser Bereich könnte das Fundament für den nächsten Run formen. Trotz starker Rally ist Standard nämlich mit ca. 12 Mio CAD  Marktkapitalisierung  zu aktuellen Preisen noch relativ günstig bewertet. 

Vergleich man die wichtigsten fundamentals (Management, Projekte, Financials und Aktienstruktur), den Fahrplan und die Aussichten unter den Werten in der Peer Group, gibt es eigentlich keinen Wert in Kanada, der Standard das Wasser reichen kann. Schauen wir gespannt nach vorne, was die Verantwortlichen dieses Jahr so bewegen werden, die Voraussetzungen für die nächste große Graphit-Story mit Focus Metals und Northern Graphite halte ich hier für ausgesprochen gut.
