"WorldCom Wins 10-Year Contract"
FRIDAY , DECEMBER 20, 2002 10:12 AM
United States, Dec 20, 2002 (Newsbytes via COMTEX) -- WorldCom Inc. has been awarded a contract to provide global communications services to the State Department in a deal that could be worth up to $360 million over 10 years.
It is the third major federal contract the telecommunications company has won in the past two months, an indication that federal officials are increasingly confident that WorldCom will emerge from bankruptcy.
Despite its bankruptcy filing and $9 billion accounting scandal, WorldCom expects its revenue from state and federal contracts in 2002 to be flat or slightly better than 2001, spokeswoman Natasha Haubold said. In 2001, WorldCom reported that $1.7 billion, or 8 percent of its revenue, came from state and federal government contracts.
