China Sci-Tech Says China Online Deal Completed
HONG KONG, Dec 29, 1999 -- (Reuters) China Sci-Tech Holdings Ltd said its acquisition of 3.0 billion shares in China Online (Bermuda) Ltd was completed on December 28.
China Strategic Holdings Ltd ceased to be a substantial shareholder of China Online on completion of the deal, China Sci-Tech said.
China Strategic and its chairman Oei Hong Leong have since December 20 disposed of 3.06
billion and 70 million China Online shares respectively, China Online said in the joint statement.
It gave no further details.
In October, Macau casino magnate Stanley Ho`s 16.7 percent controlled China Sci-Tech agreed
to buy 32.82 percent of China Online from China Strategic for HK$840 million, or HK$0.28 a
share.
China Strategic, which held 47.32 percent of China Online prior to the deal, had said it would sell
its remaining China Online shares to third parties.
China Online is also 7.42 percent owned by Pacific Century Regional Development , and holds
3.45 percent of Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd .
China Online shares ended HK$0.04 or 13.11 percent up at HK$0.345 on Tuesday.
