Finmeccanica: Uilm, Acquisti Alstom Italia
(ASCA) - Roma, 16 giu - La Finmeccanica dovrebbe acquistare Alstom Italia. Ci vuole solo volonta' politica.
Vorgeschichte:
Alstom to acquire Fiat Ferroviaria 20 June 2000
Alstom has concluded an agreement to acquire a 51 per cent stake in Fiat Ferroviaria. The transaction, which is subject to approval by European Union competition authorities, provides Alstom with a major presence in a key sector of the passenger vehicle market from which it is currently absent tilting
trains. With its 'Pendolino' technology, Fiat has established itself as the world's leading builder of tilting trains, currently holding around 28 per cent of the market, and by far the main supplier of tilting systems for rail applications, with a 56 per cent market share. The acquisition will also provide Alstom with a major presence in the Italian market, from which it is currently absent.
Fiat achieves annual direct sales of around Euro375 million and has an order book worth Euro900 million. It employs 2,300 staff. Additional revenue of Euro110 million comes from the company's existing joint venture with Alstom in the UK, West Coast Traincare, which maintains the existing Virgin West Coast fleet and will provide similar services for a new fleet of tilting trains being supplied jointly by the two companies.
The transaction values the whole of Fiat Ferroviaria at Euro300 million and includes provision for Alstom to acquire the remaining 49 per cent shareholding in due course - a step Alstom Transport President Michel Moreau has signalled as likely. Alstom has also indicated that it expects the purchase of Fiat to be its
last major acquisition in the rolling stock sector.
