Why Investors Care
Jobless Claims
Consensus 18 K
Consensus Notes
Economists are predicting that new jobless claims will rise 18,000 in the week ended July 27 from last week's level of 362,000. Generally, economists associate levels below 400,000 as consistent with moderate gains in nonfarm payrolls. (Forecast range: -2,000 to +23,000)
Weekly series fluctuate more dramatically than monthly series even when the series are adjusted for seasonal variation. The 4-week moving average gives a better perspective on the underlying trend.
