June 2 (Bloomberg) -- Employers in the U.S. added 170,000 jobs last month, enough to keep wages growing even as the economy shows signs of slowing, economists said before a government report today.The expected gain in payrolls is based on the median of 77 forecasts in a Bloomberg News survey of economists and follows an increase of 138,000 jobs in April that was the smallest in six months. The unemployment rate probably held at a four-year low of 4.7 percent. The Labor Department is scheduled to release its payrolls report at 8:30 a.m. in Washington....
Economists forecast average hourly earnings to increase 0.3 percent after a 0.5 percent gain in April, according to the Bloomberg survey. Earnings probably rose 3.9 percent from May 2005, the biggest year-over-year increase since June 2001.
