SteelCloud Announces Gateway Security Strategy; Shifts Virus Defense From the Desktop to the Perimeter
Wednesday August 27, 10:00 am ET

DULLES, Va., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SteelCloud Inc. (Nasdaq: SCLD - News), a worldwide leader in network security solutions, today announced the strategy for deploying its antivirus gateway appliances to protect an organization's technical infrastructure. Recent attacks by the Blaster, Nachi and Sobig worms and viruses highlight the need for defending the enterprise network at the Internet gateway, before malicious code can enter the network.

As highlighted by Microsoft in the last two weeks, many organizations have the basic capability to protect themselves at their desktops and servers, but are not able to keep the security software on these network computers up to date. Recognizing the difficulty of protecting individual computers, SteelCloud has targeted the gateway, where organizations connect to the Internet, as the first and last line of defense against malicious code. In a recent presentation to the San Francisco Area InfraGard Chapter, the Company outlined the benefits of protecting the IT infrastructure at its perimeter as part of an integrated security strategy.

"Stopping the attack as soon as possible and keeping it far away from the desktops and network servers should be the paramount concern addressed by an integrated security strategy," remarked Brian Hajost, SteelCloud executive vice president. "The recent attacks have revealed just how vulnerable enterprise networks are that rely solely on protecting individual desktops and servers. Augmenting desktop security with an antivirus appliance at the network gateway just makes common sense -- and can be accomplished by any size organization with a high level of precision."

SteelCloud's AVG (antivirus gateway) family of appliances scan all incoming and outgoing SMTP, HTTP, POP3, and FTP traffic to identify and isolate Trojans and other malicious code before they enter the enterprise network. The hardened, ready-to-deploy SteelCloud appliances are based on Computer Associates International's (CA) award winning eTrust Antivirus software and SteelCloud's proprietary Secure Console (SC2) software. The AVG appliances are available immediately through CA's worldwide partner network.
