SUNNYVALE, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Juniper Networks on Thursday reported second-quarter pro forma profits that were
slightly better than the prior year, as operating expenses increased at a faster clip than revenue. The provider of

million, or 9 cents a share. Analysts polled by First Call/Thomson Financial expected a profit of 8 cents. Revenue rose by 79 percent to $202.2 million from $113 million a year ago. Including all the charges, Juniper incurred a net loss of $37.1 million, or 12 cents a share, in the second quarter compared with a net income of $19.6 million, or 6 cents. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company credited the quarter's results to its focus on customer growth, financial discipline and continued investment in innovation. Shares of Juniper were down almost 2 percent to $27.95 after hours. During the regular session, the stock was up 16 percent to $28.45.
