A new approach to water desalination

Graphene sheets with precisely controlled pores have potential to purify water more efficiently than existing methods. The availability of fresh water is dwindling in many parts of the world, a problem that is expected to grow with populations. One promising source of potable water is the world’s virtually limitless supply of seawater, but so far desalination technology has been too expensive for widespread use..

Graphite Prices Climb, but Sentiment Weak

Sunday July 29, 2012, 9:15pm PDT

By Karan Kumar - Exclusive to Graphite Investing News

The price of natural flake graphite rose in June and July after declining in May, but the general feeling in the market is that prices for all grades are softening. Industrial Minerals reported that the price of large-flake graphite (+80 mesh, 94 to 97 percent carbon) was between $2,500 and $3,000 a tonne on July 26. That’s comparable to prices for the same grade seen in June..

"..Graphite demand to grow exponentially

Within the past year, about 40 companies looking for graphite have listed on Canadian stock exchanges. Use of this critical mineral in lithium-ion batteries, pebble-bed nuclear reactors, and electric vehicles is expected to grow exponentially in the coming years. And demand for these applications will be much higher than demand for graphite for steel and automotive applications.."

Comparisons are useful in evaluating a company, but in the rare earth market, it's not as simple as a spreadsheet. With so many variables in the mix, no two projects are exactly alike, and each has its relative strengths and weaknesses. But out of hundreds of juniors digging for rare earths and graphite, how can investors evaluate who is likely to be among the handful to finally sell their minerals to end users? In this exclusive interview with The Critical Metals Report, Technology Metals Research Founding Principal Gareth Hatch examines the supply chain to identify advanced companies with good odds for success. He also shares some telling metrics that help show how companies measure up to their peers..

A Specialty Metals Primer: Mickey Fulp

TICKERS: FDR, MCP

Source: Sally Lowder of The Critical Metals Report  (8/7/12)

You'll never hear Mickey Fulp talk about electric metals, technology metals or rare metals. But he's got plenty to say about specialty metals. While the nomenclature may not seem important, Fulp, who is one of the foremost experts in the space today, believes obscure definitions are confusing investors. In this exclusive interview with The Critical Metals Report, Fulp clears up the confusion and talks about some in-demand elements many investors may have never even heard of...

www.theaureport.com/pub/na/14061

..

"TCMR: What about graphite, which of course, is not a metal?

MF: Your point is well taken. Carbon as graphite is a semi-metal and I separate those elements from the specialty metals. That said, I'm very bullish on graphite. I started studying the graphite market more than two years ago. I looked at two up-and-coming graphite juniors and finally chose to delve into the market a little less than a year ago with a startup company, Flinders Resources Ltd. (FDR:TSX.V). That company is now recognized as one of the three leaders in the graphite space.

There are opportunities in graphite. I've gone on record as saying graphite is going to be the next big thing and could be the next bubble. It hasn't panned out yet, but I attribute that to the overall negative junior resource market we've had this year
.

TCMR: Flinders has a really smart group behind it. It has a deposit in Sweden, which is very mining friendly.

MF: Sweden is at the top of my list for mining-friendly countries in the world. Flinders has a past-producing mine. The people who are running this company have had very good success with two sister companies. The capex to put this project back into production is about one-fourth the amount that its peers require. It has raised all the money it needs to go into production and is actually selling graphite from stockpiles as we speak. We expect this graphite mine to be in commercial production again by early 2014, if not before.."

Update Graphitsektor: Supply Situation Report

Flinders Starts Reprocessing Graphite At The Kringel Mine In Sweden

Vancouver, Canada - Flinders Resources Limited ("Flinders") (TSXV -- FDR). Mr. Martin McFarlane, President & CEO is pleased to provide an update on the wide range of activities that are underway at the Kringel Graphite Mine in Sweden to advance the project towards a restart of production. Highlights include:

•The back end of the Kringel processing plant has been successfully restarted and production of graphite from stockpiled material is underway. The entire supply (500 tonnes) of stockpiled material has been sold to German customers and the first shipment is expected to occur in September.
Dewatering of the Kringel pit has commenced. Once the pit has been emptied, mining of ore may begin.
•Two 500kg bulk samples of fresh graphite ore from the Kringel deposit have been extracted and sent to Metso Corporation ("Metso"), a global mineral engineering and processing technology company, for grinding tests to optimize processing parameters.
•Drilling of additional holes at the Kringel deposit to enable deeper graphite zones to be included in the NI43-101 resource calculation has concluded. Further assay results will be announced shortly. The NI43-101 resource calculation at the Kringel deposit is now expected mid to late September due to drill mechanical issues that led to a 5 week overrun of the additional drilling program..

The Global Destination for Graphite Investors

Posted on February 22, 2013  by Alessandro Bruno

Graphite investors have their pick in Quebec; more interestingly, the proximity of the properties and the availability of expertise and perhaps the best mining regulatory environment in the world, make the province  ideal. Quebec is mining friendly; graphite projects in Quebec are close to very good roads and infrastructure; the projects feature the highest grades facilitating the purification process to address the current sources of demand; finally, the companies are managed by world experts in the area of mineral graphite and all operating close to Timcal one of the sole suppliers of natural graphite in the world. The key concept is vicinity. Everything is ‘close’; one might coin the term ‘close-ology’ or “vicinology” for those who like Latin to describe the serendipitous combination of factors that are turning Quebec into the premiere graphite destination. This ‘closeology’ also has the potential to spur a number of mergers and acquisitions as the various properties run into each other geographically and geologically..
