1051 [Dow Jones] China Southern (1055.HK [News / Quote]) up 6.3% at HK$4.73 on heavy volume of HK$59.8 million (despite higher oil price) after peer China Eastern's (0670.HK [News / Quote]) suspension (no reasons yet), which suggests strategic stake sale to Singapore Airlines (S55.SG) imminent. Chinese government's injection into China Eastern to secure foreign partner 'could set a precedent for China Southern', says Merrill Lynch; adds Emirates and Air France-KLM most likely suitors for CSA. CSA's gearing about 470%, highest among peers. Merrill had Buy, HK$4.75 target before stock's rally today.(SUT) Contact us in Hong Kong. 852 2802 7002; MarketTalk@dowjones.com
