Hooper Holmes (WKN 897080) habe sich darauf spezialisiert, Informationen über den Gesundheitszustand von Antragstellern für eine Krankenversicherung an die Versicherungsgesellschaften zu liefern, berichten die Wertpapierexperten von Hornblower Fischer.

Hierfür seien bereits über 200 Zweigstellen in den USA aufgebaut worden, in denen die entsprechenden medizinischen Tests durchgeführt werden würden. Das US-Unternehmen bewege sich in einer lukrativen Nische. So sei in den ersten Monaten 1999 ein Umsatzzuwachs von 18% auf 161,2 (137,1) Mio. Dollar erzielt worden. Der Nettogewinn sei überproportional auf 14,6 (10,1) Mio. Dollar oder 0,48 (0,34) Cents je Aktie angewachsen.

Das Unternehmen habe den Vertriebsweg über das Internet im vergangenen Jahr massiv ausgebaut und erreiche hier bereits eine überproportionale Dynamik. Hooper Holmes sei einer der Profiteure der demographischen Entwicklung – die zu einem deutlich ansteigenden Anteil älterer Menschen führe – aber auch des wachsenden Wohlstandes, der steigende Ausgaben für die Gesundheitsvorsorge erlaube.

Hooper Holmes swings to a profit in the fourth quarter

Despite lower sales, Hooper Holmes yesterday posted a fourth-quarter profit of $6.9 million, or 10 cents a share.

In the same period a year ago, the Basking Ridge company had a loss of $42 million, or 62 cents a share, largely because of restructuring costs and other one-time charges.

Sales for Hooper Holmes, which performs medical exams and other risk assessment services for the insurance industry, fell 5 percent to $58.3 million in the quarter.

"As today's results show, we have made progress over the past two years in reducing costs," Roy Bubbs, the company's chief executive, said in a statement. "We now need to focus on gaining market share in our core Portamedic business and growing profitable revenue. We are in the process of strengthening our sales and marketing efforts and I am committed to bringing my experience in life insurance and financial services and track record of growing profitable revenues to improving this business."
