At IBC, vizrt launched viz[arena], a new virtual graphics technology for sports broadcasting. It delivers traditional 3-D graphics as well as virtual graphics from the same system.
Sport-specific plug-ins are available for major sports, with data shown as realtime graphical elements and animations, overlaid onto grass, snow, water, etc. It integrates with realtime statistical systems interfaced to sports feeds, scoreboards, etc., and displays animations of team line-ups, positions and clocks. Graphics can be displayed traditionally, such as fade in/out or dissolve, in 2D or 3D, or vizrt animation tools can be used.
Also new from vizrt is viz[e pilot], a new tool to manage graphic content from remote locations. Using the Oracle database, viz[e pilot] allows a user to build graphics content from templates accessible over the internet and even schedule the graphics to air. Everyone in the organisation can preview, share and deliver graphics, regardless of location.
New in graphics and video content delivery over the internet is viz[iforce], which uses the MPEG 4 standard. With viz[iforce], the same broadcast-quality graphic content can be delivered one-to-one to the viewing audience over the internet, using a special version of the viz [on-air] rendering engine embedded within an MPEG 4 player.
viz[text fx] is a new set of realtime text special effects for live broadcast graphics. It is now available as a plug-in to viz[modeling] and offers explosive effects, dropping character effects and a set of user-definable text jumps.
Also launched at IBC for the European market was viz[video engine], which eliminates the need to co-ordinate control room staff (technical director, tape operator, still store operator, etc.) to create motion 3D graphics elements for broadcast. It combines vizrt’s realtime 3D graphics authoring system with an internal digital disk recorder. Rendered post graphics can be mixed with realtime graphics, live.
viz[2go] is an optimised, mobile version of viz[modeling], bundled with a new laptop PC from Dell, that delivers near realtime performance and complete portability. Ideal for travelling broadcast graphics artists, it allows users to create scenes anywhere and make changes on the road
