STOCKWATCH Porsche downgraded to 'sell' from 'hold' at ABN Amro 17.01.2005 08:16 Headlines
FRANKFURT (AFX) - ABN Amro has downgraded its stance on Porsche AG to 'sell'
from 'hold', citing the threats of negative forex moves and weaker US and UK
consumer demand, dealers said.
"Investors should look through hedging cover and assess the underlying
reality: without a big dollar rally, Porsche appears significantly overvalued,"
ABN said.
The US is by far Porsche's largest market in terms of unit sales, ABN noted.
ABN said that Porsche has been sustained by the strength of demand in the US
and UK -- its largest and third largest markets.
"If consumer activity eases in the US and UK, we see the potential for
significantly lower new car sales," ABN said. "We see no reason to believe that
Porsche customers would be unaffected."
On Friday, Porsche shares closed at 498.50 eur.
