Mitsubishi Estate Co. declined after Credit Suisse Group said defaults on U.S. subprime mortgages may prompt overseas investors to sell their property holdings in Japan. Commonwealth Bank of Australia led the drop among banks after Morgan Stanley cut the stock's rating.
``Global investors are reducing their real-estate investments across the board,'' said Hitoshi Yamamoto, who manages the equivalent of $5.5 billion in Japanese equities as chief executive officer of Fortis Asset Management in Tokyo.
The MSCI Asia Pacific Index fell 0.5 percent to 154.25 as of 1:30 p.m. in Tokyo, snapping a two-day, 1.3 percent advance. A measure of financial stocks including property developers and banks was the biggest drag on the benchmark.
Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost 0.5 percent to 14,523.19. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Index retreated 0.2 percent, paced by BHP Billiton Ltd., after Alumina Ltd. reported profit that missed its own forecast and the price of metals and crude oil declined. Markets in Malaysia and Indonesia are shut today.
Health-care shares including CSL Ltd. led gains for a second day after Goldman Sachs Group Inc. said some drugmakers' earnings will withstand a U.S. economic slowdown. Gilead Sciences Inc. and Pfizer Inc. climbed in the U.S., helping the Standard & Poor's 500 Index to its biggest advance in more than two weeks.
Property Shares Fall
Mitsubishi Estate, Japan's biggest property developer by market value, fell 3.4 percent to 2,385 yen, set for its lowest close since Sept. 26, 2006. Sumitomo Realty & Development Co., Japan's third-largest developer, slumped 5 percent to 2,490 yen.
``Foreign investors who actively invested in Japanese real estate could decide to sell their Japanese real estate holdings,'' Yoji Otani, an analyst at Credit Suisse, wrote in a note to clients. ``In 2008, we are likely to see a situation in which only real estate firms with a genuine understanding of real estate survive.''
Japanese developers also slid after the Nikkei newspaper said banks are curbing their lending to property funds in the wake of subprime defaults, cooling the market for acquisitions.
Hong Kong shares end morning lower on Cheung Kong lead, China price-freeze
Hong Kong shares ended Thursday morning lower,
with property stocks pressured by talk of investors' sale of shares in industry major Cheung Kong (Holdings) and
the energy sector weighed down by the Chinese government's decision to freeze energy prices.
The Hang Seng Index ended the session down 246.01 points or 0.9 percent at 27,369.84.
Turnover was 69.23 billion Hong Kong dollars.
Cheung Kong fell 4.10 dollars or 2.8 percent to 141.90. A UBS Investment Bank term sheet triggered speculation that an unnamed shareholder was launching a 4.71 billion dollars share selldown in the property developer.
Oil stocks Sinopec Corp and Petrochina plunged on concern over refining losses after the Chinese government said Wednesday it would control prices of electricity, natural gas and oil products to ease inflation, which is at an 11-year high.
""Property stocks have gone up more than 15 percent in the short term, with Sun Hung Kai hovering around record prices. If the share placement goes ahead as planned, we will see property stocks correct further,"" said Linus Yip, strategist with First Shanghai Securities.
Sinopec was down 66 cents or 5.7 percent at 10.84 dollars, while PetroChina was 18 cents or 1.3 percent lower at 14.06.

TOKYO, Jan 10 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasuries were little changed in Asia on Thursday, with investors awaiting comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke later in the day while keeping an eye on whether U.S. stocks can sustain a rebound.
Equity markets in Asia slumped further, with Japan's Nikkei average .N225 losing 1 percent and other markets also in negative territory. Futures on the S&P 500 SPc1 were little changed and gave up earlier gains.
Benchmark 10-year yields jumped from a four-year low hit the previous day as Wall Street stocks bounced back from their sharp slide at the start of the year, even as worries about a deep economic recession dog investors.
Ten-year notes were unchanged in price to yield 3.823 percent, having pulled up from a low of 3.760 percent touched on Wednesday. Two-year notes were also flat to yield 2.721 percent.
March 10-year futures TYv1 shed 7/32 to 115-8/32. Ten-year swap spreads SMKR99 edged a quarter-basis point tighter to 62.75 basis points, while two-year spreads shrank 0.75 basis points to 76.75 basis points.

Japan's leading economic index slips to 10.0 in November from 18.2 in October
Japan's index of leading economic indicators fell to 10.0 in in November from 18.2 in October because of inventory increases and weak consumer confidence, preliminary data released by the Cabinet Office on Thursday showed.
The drop in the index was in line with economist forecasts.
The leading index, which is used as an early indicator of how the economy will fare over the next three months, hit zero in September, the first time it touched this level since December 1997.
The index has now stayed below the boom-and-bust line of 50 for the fourth straight month.
A reading above 50 points indicates economic expansion over the next six months, while that below 50 suggests contraction.
The leading economic indicator was above 50 points for two consecutive months in June and July last year, the first time it has stayed above the boom-and-bust line for more than a single month since June 2006.
The leading index is based on 12 indicators, of which data for 10 were available for the preliminary reading, with one pointing to an expansion and nine indicating a contraction.
The coincident index, which measures the state of the economy at the time the readings are taken, fell to 33.3 from a revised 70 in October, matching the market's consensus forecast.

Das Ziel wurde mit einem Tagestief bei 7.770 erreicht. Bei 7.764/7.777 sollte sich entscheiden, ob ein größeres Verkaufssignal etabliert wird. Die Entscheidung wurde vertagt.
Charttechnischer Ausblick: Nach wie vor ist die Lage kritisch. Jede weitere kleine Schwächephase könnte ein größeres Verkaufssignal auslösen. Die kritische Situation bleibt bestehen, solange sich der DAX nicht entscheidend von der SELL-Triggermarkt 7.777 nach oben entfernen kann. Steigt der DAX am heutigen Tag über 7.858, so ergibt sich ein kleines Kaufsignal mit Ziel 7.900. Sollte der DAX mit mehr als nur einem kurzen Peak unter 7.764/7.777 fallen, so wären Ziele bei 7.684/7.702 und später bei 7.545/7.560 zu finden.

...casaubon - finde unter diesen umständen nicht, dass moya sich mit "h.e." absprechen sollte. meine meinung dazu, falls es sich um happy handelt, was er heute ja bei den begrüßungen in seinem thread nicht abgestritten hat, habe ich bereits montag gepostet. nase voll haben, ohne ein wort abhauen nach dem motto nach mir die sintflut, ist okay. sich zwischendurch, wenn man meint, ohne ariva nicht leben zu können, nicht mit einem "hallo" melden und unter einem neuen nickname stur sein ding durchziehen, hat für mich keinen stil - unterstütze ich auch nicht. ich finde moya macht den thread hier prima, bringt sich selber auch ein - so macht es mir hier spaß. shortkillers kommentar im h.e.-thread: "ignorieren dich - machen ihren eigenen ttt auf" ist völlig daneben (außer es war ironisch gemeint) - man kann niemanden ignorieren, von dem man nicht weiß, wer er ist (ich weiß nicht, dass h.e. happy ist) und ein eigener ttt ist auch nicht entstanden, der alte wurde erst von wolle und jetzt von moya gerettet. hoffe sehr, dass du es weiter machst moya.
und ich muss meine Hosen wechseln.

dem DAX scheint die Nikkei-Rutsche Null zu interessieren, vielmehr feste Schluss des Dow. Mal schauen wie heute die Arbeitsmarktdaten ausfallen, wenn die postiv sein sollte, sollte es m.E. nach oben gehen. Wie ist Eure Meinung ?

zum markt: sieht zwar aktuell weiter nach einer langweiligen seitwärtsbewegung aus, aber ab mittags könnte ich mir gut ausschläge in beide richtungen vorstellen: boe und ezb-ergebnisse (erwarte keine überraschungen, aber vielleicht frustration der anleger), us-arbeitlosenhilfe wird schon negativ erwartet, 16 uhr der fed-index wird vielleicht auch negativ ausfallen und um 19 uhr kommt dann der rettende engel ben. na schaun wir mal, short behalte ich erst mal weiter.
