Panasonic baut für 700 Mio. Euro weltgrößtes PDP-Werk
Jährliche Kapazität auf 4,5 Mio. Stück ausgebaut

Osaka (pte, 18. Mai 2004 16:05) - Die Matsushita Plasma Display Panel (MPDP) Company, ein Joint Venture zwischen Matsushita www.panasonic.co.jp/global und dem Chemiekonzern Toray Industries, will für 95 Mrd. Yen (knapp 700 Mio. Euro) das weltgrößte Werk für Plasma Display Panele (PDP) errichten. Der Konzern, der seine Produkte unter dem Markennamen Panasonic vertreibt, kann dadurch seine Produktionskapazität auf insgesamt 4,5 Mio. PDPs erhöhen, teilte MPDP heute, Dienstag, in einer Aussendung mit.

Der Baubeginn für die neue Fabrik ist für September dieses Jahres geplant. Ab November 2005 soll die kommerzielle Produktion starten. Mit einer erwarteten Kapazität von monatlich 250.000 und jährlich drei Mio. Panelen wird das Werk laut Matsushita dann vom Produktionsvolumen her das größte der Welt sein. Matsushita betreibt bereits zwei weitere PDP-Fabriken in Japan und eine in China.

Durch den Neubau will der japanische Konzern die Marktführerschaft auf dem PDP-Markt erobern. Besonders die steigende Nachfrage in Japan, den USA und Europa bewirke, dass der PDP-Markt rapide anwachse, heißt es in der Aussendung. Für das Jahr 2008 erwartet Matsushita eine Zunahme des Marktes auf zehn Mio. verkaufte Panele oder drei Bio. Yen (22 Mrd. Euro). (Ende)

LG to invest $1.97B this year in electronics R&D

The LG Group is set to invest a total of 2.3 trillion won ($1.97 billion at $1:1,168.50 won) in electronics R&D this year, a 21 percent year-on-year increase. LG's R&D investment is expected to grow every year, reaching 4 trillion won ($3.42 billion) by 2007 and over 6 trillion won ($5.13 billion) by 2010. Thus, in the next six years, the Group will spend a total of 30 trillion won ($25.67 billion) for R&D.
LG will allot over 60 percent of its annual R&D budget to foster key businesses such as mobile handsets, digital TV receivers and flat-panel displays. In addition, LG is planning to beef up the strength of its R&D team, from its current staff of 14,000, to 24,000 by 2007 and 30,000 by 2010.

Among LG's subsidiaries, LG Electronics Inc. and LG Chemical Ltd will capture the biggest share in the R&D cash outlay.

LG aims to expand its digital TV market share in North America and other developed markets and maintain its leadership in PDP and LCD markets through investments and product diversification.

LG will also strengthen the cooperation among its subsidiaries in an effort to expand its core parts such as system ICs or core chips, camera modules and PDP rear panels.
