In Japan sind schätzungsweise 3 bis 5 % der Gesamtbevölkerung an MASH (Metabolic Dysfunction-associated Steatohepatitis) erkrankt. Das entspricht etwa 3,7 bis 4,3 Millionen Menschen. Die Zahl der tatsächlich diagnostizierten Fälle lag in den vergangenen Jahren bei etwa 680.000.
In Japan ist das Medikament Wegovy (Wirkstoff: Semaglutid) das erste und einzige zugelassene Medikament zur Behandlung der metabolischen Dysfunktion-assoziierten Steatohepatitis (MASH, früher NASH)
Wegovy SC approved in Japan for MASH
Danish pharma major Novo Nordisk (NOV: N) has received a partial change approval of the manufacturing and marketing authorization from Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) for Wegovy (semaglutide) subcutaneous, its once-weekly GLP-1 receptor agonist co-promoted with local drugmaker Sumitomo Pharma.
This approval covers an additional indication for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) without cirrhosis in patients with moderate to advanced fibrosis.
