HLBC, a company related to Ian Lazar, the man behind the schemes (who changed his name from Ian Rogut in the late 1990s after he went bankrupt following the collapse of his company R&B Diamonds), received $1 million. A mystery litigation funder was paid $3.1 million in commission, and fees were paid to big Jim Byrnes, a notorious standover man, who was also hired by the liquidator to collect debts. Nothing was left for creditors.
