Motricity dämmt Verlust im 2. Quartal ein und erhöht Umsatz

New York (BoerseGo.de) – Das US-Unternehmen Motricity konnte im zweiten Quartal seinen Verlust im Vergleich zum Vorjahr eindämmen und gleichzeitig den Umsatz erhöhen.
Der Verlust verringerte sich im Jahresvergleich von 11,6 Millionen Dollar oder 1,95 Dollar je Aktie auf 4,3 Millionen Dollar oder 0,09 Dollar je Anteilsschein. Bereinigt wurde ein Nettogewinn von 2,0 Millionen Dollar oder 0,04 Dollar je Aktie ausgewiesen, nach 3,7 Millionen Dollar oder 0,09 Dollar je Aktie im Vorjahr. Analysten hatten im Vorfeld der Zahlen mit einem bereinigten Ergebnis je Aktie von plus 0,09 Dollar gerechnet.
Der Umsatz stieg jedoch im gleichen Zeitraum deutlich um 14 Prozent auf 34,6 Millionen Dollar an, nach 30,4 Millionen Dollar im Vorjahrjahresquartal. Hier lagen die Analystenschätzungen zuvor bei 37,08 Millionen Dollar.
Im Ausblick auf das dritte Quartal erwartet das Unternehmen beim Ergebnis vor Zinsen, Steuern und Abschreibungen (EBITDA) den Breakeven zu erreichen. Beim bereinigten Ergebnis wird ein Verlust von vier Millionen Dollar gesehen. Der Umsatz wird mit 31,5 bis 32,5 Millionen Dollar prognostiziert. Analysten gehen derzeit von einem Umsatz von 45,48 Millionen Dollar im Quartal aus.

Motricity’s cash position has substantially declined, its second quarter 2011 balance sheet showed $2.97 million in cash, compared to $61.59 million in the first quarter. Motricity’s quarterly revenue growth of 13.90%, versus the industry average of 28.80%, and a return on equity of -2.08%, versus an industry average of 11.80%, indicates it is underperforming many of its competitors.

The overall outlook for the Diversified Communications Services industry is seen as positive, primarily as it is a major infrastructure product and due to the increasing growth in wireless web based communication.

When the positive industry outlook is considered in conjunction with Motricity’s ability to increase revenue and net income in a difficult operating environment, combined with its rich patent and product portfolios it looks like an enticing investment opportunity. In addition, the recent decrease in the stock price has created a buying opportunity. On this basis I believe that Motricity is an interesting speculative buy.

Motricity, Inc. (MOTR) shares are trading at $1.45. MOTR is a leading provider of mobile data solutions. These shares have a relative strength index of about 35 which indicates the shares are becoming oversold. The 50-day moving average is about $1.83 and the 200-day average is $8.05. The shares have traded in a range between $1.19 to $31.39 in the past 52 weeks. Motricity reported earnings which disappointed the market (again) as shares dropped from about $1.85 before earnings to current levels of around $1.45. Earnings estimates for MOTR are for a loss of 8 cents per share in 2011, and a 9 cent loss for 2012. This company and stock have been a huge disappointment for many investors and there is little doubt it will see plenty of tax-loss selling in the next few weeks. This could easily push the shares to 52 week lows around $1.19 or below. A buy around $1 per share might reward investors who hold this stock past January, when tax-loss selling will be over.

Unfortunately, Motricity and Velti PLC have had checkered recent pasts, and both still appear to have lingering income statement challenges that aren't necessarily related to demand for mobile marketing services.

Either way, there's one clear reason why restaurant investors may want to respect a well-thought out mobile marketing plan, or be wary of a poor one - the redemption rate of mobile coupons is nearly 25% higher than printed internet coupons and about 10 times higher than mail or newspaper coupons and are only a fraction of the cost. Moreover, Jim Smith, who took the CEO position from

from both CEO and BOD) is only an interim CEO doing cleanup.
A buyout is a strong possibility here. There are not many
pure plays on mobile marketing.
