Das Unternehmen hat die restlichen Oberflächenrechte für die geplante Mine auf seiner zu 100% eigenen Angostura Gold-Silber-Lagerstätte im Nordosten Kolumbiens erhalten. Seit 2005 hat man um die Erteilung gekämpft, so Vize CEO Frederick Felder. Man habe die Rechte auf die Gebiete für die Mineninfrastruktur erhalten und für Gebiete, die vielversprechende Explorationsziele beherbergen. Insgesamt besitzt Greystar nun die Oberflächenrechte für 3.538,7 ha Land und Mineralrechte auf rund 30.000 ha Land. Somit kann das Unternehmen die Planungen für den Projektbau fortsetzen, der Mitte 2010 beginnen soll.
Die letzte und wichtigste Erteilung der Oberflächenrechte betraf ein Gebiet von 1.034 ha, auf dem möglicherweise die zwei großen Auslaugungsbecken gebaut werden und der Großteil des Abraumgesteins gelagert werden soll.
Gegen Ende dieses (schon geschehen - siehe posting 02/06/2009 - louisaner) Jahres soll eine Machbarkeitsstudie fertiggestellt werden; alle nötigen technischen Verträge konnte das Unternehmen bereits schließen. Die Studie umfasst drei wichtige Abschnitte: Optimierung, Design und Finanzplanung. Man wird die einzelnen Punkte der vorläufigen Machbarkeitsstudie verbessern und die allgemeinen Risiken senken. Die Studie wird die Basis für die Projektfinanzierung darstellen. Die Studie zum Einfluss des Projektes auf die Umwelt und die Gesellschaft wird ebenfalls derzeit angefertigt und soll gegen Ende des Jahres abgeschlossen sein.
Im Dezember 2008 ergab eine Ressourcenschätzung eine gemessene Ressource von 148,9 Mio. t mit Gehalten von 0,78 Gramm Gold für 3,736 Mio. enthaltene Unzen Gold und eine angezeigte Ressource von 182 Mio. t mit Gehalten von 1,34 Gramm pro Tonne Gold für 7,813 Mio. enthaltene Unzen Gold.
