MULBERRY, Fla., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Publix, one of the 10 largest volume supermarket chains in the United States will offer New Generation irradiated frozen ground beef and chicken early next year. New Generation products are irradiated by Food Technology Service, Inc. (Nasdaq: VIFL, news). Ground beef patties, boneless chicken breasts and chicken tenders will be offered at all 711 Publix stores. In addition to these frozen items, Publix will also consider offering fresh products in the future.

"Publix's decision to provide customers the option of purchasing irradiated products as another line of defense against food-borne illness is further evidence of their commitment to food safety."
Food irradiation is a safe and effective technology that destroys E. coli, Salmonella and other harmful bacteria using radiant energy.
