While film crews and shoots are nothing new to jaded Vancouverites, many more movies get made here that don’t cause traffic jams or draw crowds of rubbernecking onlookers.
Here are a few that are currently being put together by the talented and hard-working frontliners in the city’s visual effects industry.
Child 44 — A thriller starring Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) and Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo). Release date TBA.
Chappie — The latest from director Neil Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium). Release date: March 2015.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles — A reboot of the 1990 movie based on a comic book series, this time with Megan Fox. Release date: Aug. 8, 2014.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 — The sequel to the 2012 remake of the 2002 movie, but not a remake of the 2004 sequel to the 2002 movie. We think. Release date: May 2, 2014.
Godzilla — A reboot of the monster that originally appeared in 1954 and was resurrected in 1998. Release date: May 16, 2014.
Maleficent — A Disney flick starring Angelina Jolie and based on Sleeping Beauty. Release date: May 30, 3014.
Fast and Furious 7 — One of actor Paul Walker’s last films and the latest in the fast-car franchise. Release date: April 2015.
X-Men: Days of Future Past — The latest in the Marvel Comics mutant saga. Release date: May 23, 2014.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For — Another comic book movie sequel, this one based on another Sin City graphic novel by Frank Miller. Release date: Aug. 22, 2014.
Noah — You think you know the story of Noah? Director Darren Aronofsky has other ideas. Release date: March 28, 2014.
