Creston Moly hikes resources at Mexico project

TORONTO (miningweekly.com) - TSX Venture Exchange-listed Creston Moly Corp has increased the measured and indicated molybdenum resource at its flagship project in Sonora, Mexico, by 34% and the copper resource in the same categories by 77%, the company announced on Tuesday.

The new resource estimate is an update from a 2009 prefeasibility study on the El Creston project, and is constrained by a conceptual optimised pit for the project.

The measured and indicated resources at El Creston are now estimated at 215,4-million tons, averaging 0,071 % molybdenum and 0,059 % copper, to contain 335,5-million pounds of molybdenum and 280,5-million pounds of copper.

The stripping ratio has also been recalculated to 0,94:1, compared with a previous estimate of 1,23:1, in the 2009 prefeasibility study.

"With the increase in resources, and a significant reduction in the strip ratio using lower molybdenum and copper prices than were used in the previous prefeasibility study, we are confident that we can significantly increase the asset value of this project going forward," Creston CEO Bruce McLeod said.

The company has started working on a new preliminary economic assessment, which should be ready by December, and is developing a new openpit mining plan.

"Indications are that the increased resource within the conceptual optimised pit will support increasing the processing plant throughput from the 40 000 t/d (used in the prefeasibility study) to 50 000 t/d," McLeod said.

Metallurgical test work and plant re-design is also well advanced for completion of a feasibility study, and the study should be completed by mid-2011, McLeod said.

Creston acquired Tenajon Resources, which was exploring for molybdenum on properties in Newfoundland and British Columbia, in September last year.
