1) Equity Interests in Mining Projects –
The provincial government will allot up to $1
billion to invest in mining and hydrocarbon development projects over the next five
years. As part of this program, the government may negotiate an equity interest in
projects in exchange for government support, including support in the form of
enhanced exploration tax credits.
2) Potential New Rail Line to the Labrador Trough –
The Premier announced that CN
Rail and the Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec are working together on a
project for a rail line from the Port of Sept-Iles to just north of Schefferville (more
than 800km). The planned feasibility study is contingent on transportation
agreements with mining companies and affected First Nations groups.
3) Potential Transmission Grid to Nunavik –
The Premier also announced that Hydro-
Quebec will undertake studies on an extension of the power transmission grid from
the Complex La Grande facility to the Nunavik region in northern Quebec, with the
intention of being able to supply power to mining operations in the territory.
