CEC Unet in 5-year exclusive partnership with CMCA to distribute P Phone
Chinese mobile media services company CEC Unet PLC said it has entered into a 5-year exclusive partnership with industry association, China Mobile Communications and Telecom Association (CMCA), to distribute the 'P Phone'.
The P Phone or Payment and Personal Media capable handset will enable Chinese customers to pay bills, check their bank balance and buy goods and services directly from their mobile phones for the first time.
Under the partnership, CMCA is to distribute P Phones to at least 25 mln users throughout China within the next 36 months.
CEC Unet said it will invest up to 1.8 mln usd through its Hong Kong unit Business New Media Ltd to cover operating costs and the cost of integrating the technology.
CEC Unet said it will receive 70 pct of the revenue generated from sales of the project. Proceeds will come from sales of P Phone smart film and sim cards, mobile-based payments, advertising and licensing.
The smart film and sim cards can turn virtually any mobile phone into a P Phone once they are inserted into the back of the handset, CEC Unet said. These products will be sold through existing mobile distribution channels such as CEC Unet's own 50,000 retail outlets in Henan province
