CBS Marketwatch-- The Guinness Flight Wired Index Fund announced significant changes to its holdings Monday, following like changes in its benchmark Wired Index -- developed and maintained by the editors of Wired magazine. This is the first change in the index since its launch in June 1998.
"Like the Dow, the Wired Index is a snapshot of a broad economy, and there is a bias towards continuity, " Wired contributing editor Spencer Reiss said in a statement. "Our rule on changes is the same as the DJIA's: when one of the listed companies undergoes a fundamental change in its status -- in this case, the takeover of Monsanto by Pharmacia & Upjohn. We take that as a 'trigger' and reexamine the whole list."
New additions to the index include Aventis S.A. (AVE: news, msgs), BroadVision (BVSN: news, msgs), Flextronics International (FLEX: news, msgs), i2 Technologies, (ITWO: news, msgs), JDS Uniphase (JDSU: news, msgs), Oracle (ORCL: news, msgs), and Vodafone AirTouch PLC (VOD: news, msgs).
