Dragon Oil plc (Ticker: DGO), an international oil and gas exploration and production compa ny, announces that it has signed a contract with BKE Shelf Limited to hire the Astra jack-up r ig for a period of six months commencing in November 2009 on favourable terms . The Group plans to use th is jack-up rig to drill two well s during the contract term. Dragon Oil has previously employed this rig on a short-term contract basis. BKE Shelf Ltd. is the offshore drilling division of Eurasia Drilling. Dragon Oil plans to use the jackup to drill two wells during the contract term. Dragon Oil will use the rig in the Cheleken contract area of the Caspian Sea, offshore Turkmenistan. Cheleken covers around 950 square kilometers (366.8 sq miles) and includes two offshore oil and gas fields, Dzheitune (Lam) and Dzhygalybeg (Zhdanov), in water depths of between eight meters and 42 meters (26.2 ft to 137.8 ft). Dragon Oil has previously employed this rig on a short-term contract basis.
