As September arrives, so does the anticipated emergence of Delphi Corp. from nearly four years of operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The Michigan-based parent of Delphi Thermal Systems in Lockport says it expects to emerge by the end of the quarter on Sept. 30.
A component of the plan, which was approved by bankruptcy court, involves General Motors Co.'s takeback of five Delphi plants, including Lockport and a facility in Rochester, although terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Delphi was created in 1999 when GM spun off its parts operation.
Asked if the transfer will occur by or on Sept. 30, Delphi spokesman Lindsey Williams responded, "It would be fair to say that the transfer of those sites/businesses cannot occur prior to obtaining the necessary regulatory (antitrust) approvals from the various countries. The parties are working diligently to secure those approvals."
Delphi Thermal Systems has 2,100 employees, and is Western New York's largest manufacturer.
