Dogwood Initiative’s research into Blue Pearl Mining ltd. dug up some interesting corporate history.
Just months after their patent lawsuit was overturned on appeal, Patent Enforcement and Royalties Ltd changed its name to Blue Pearl Mining and its focus to developing the Davidson molybdenum near Smithers.
Patent Enforcement and Royalties Ltd had been supporting Harry Gaus in his lawsuit against Conair over the mechanism in a hair dryer used to prevent electrical shock if dropped in water. Gaus had been awarded US46.1 million in 2002, but when the appeal succeeded, Patent Enforcement and Royalties Ltd suddenly became a mining company almost overnight.
While Blue Pearl’s officers and board have experience in mining, this quick change and refocus from patent lawsuits to mining raises serious questions about whether they intend to operate the new mine or flip it.
Is Blue Pearl a serious company that will stand by commitments to First Nations and the local community or are they model of VSE stock promoters interested in a fast buck at any cost?
