SulphCo's high-powered ultrasound process to remove sulfur from crude produces more usable gallons of oil per barrel. It upgrades sour heavy into sweeter lighter crude by altering the molecular structure of oil, breaking the molecular bonds in oil and water to free impurities. The new patent, "Ultrasound-Assisted Desulfurization of Fossil Fuels in the Presence of Dialkyl Ethers," covers the desulfurized fossil fuel produced by the chemical reaction when the water and hydrocarbon mixture is exposed to intense ultrasonic waves.

SulphCo currently has three other U.S. patents issued to cover the development and manufacture of its high-powered ultrasound technology and equipment. The first patent, no. 6,402,939, was issued on June 11, 2002 and assigned to SulphCo by Dr. Teh Fu Yen of the University of Southern California. The second and third patents, no. 6,500,219 and no. 6,652,992, were issued to Dr. Gunnerman on December 31, 2002 and November 25, 2003, respectively, and assigned to SulphCo. SulphCo also has one additional patent allowed and has three other patents pending.

About SulphCo, Inc.

SulphCo has developed a patented process employing ultrasound technology to desulfurize and hydrogenate crude oil and other oil related products. The company's technology upgrades sour heavy crude oils into sweeter, lighter crudes, producing more gallons of usable oil per barrel. SulphCo CEO Invests Additional Capital in Company
Tuesday January 4, 7:00 am ET

SPARKS, Nev., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SulphCo, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SLPH - News), a leader in developing and marketing high-powered ultrasound technology and equipment for the petroleum industry, announced that founder and CEO Rudolf Gunnerman has made an additional $7 million investment in the company.

Sulphco--der Zukunftswert im Ölbereich? 1763236
This transaction involves a $7 million direct loan for a term of 36 months at market rate. The proceeds will be used to expedite commercialization of SulphCo's patented ultrasound process to upgrade crude oil by increasing the distillate yield while at the same time reducing sulfur and nitrogen content, Gunnerman said. Gunnerman began developing ultrasound desulfurization technology in 1997 and founded SulphCo in 2000 to bring the process to market.

"This additional capital will enhance our balance sheet and provide what we believe will be sufficient funds for commercialization and rapid delivery of our product," Gunnerman said.

SulphCo's ultrasound technology upgrades crude oil at low pressure and low temperature by breaking the molecular bonds in hydrocarbons, producing more gallons of usable oil per barrel of crude. The company has a collaboration agreement and is conducting ongoing analysis of the process with ChevronTexaco Energy Technology Co., a unit of ChevronTexaco Corp.

RPT-Investors wait for SulphCo to deliver-Barron's
Sun Jan 22, 2006 04:18 PM ET
(Repeating to fix typo in second paragraph)
NEW YORK, Jan 22 (Reuters) - Oil services company SulphCo's (SUF.A: Quote, Profile, Research) stock may take a hit unless it can prove its technology works, Barron's business weekly reported on Sunday.

The newspaper said in its Jan. 23 edition that investors could lose patience unless the company can soon prove its "Sonocracking" ultrasound oil production technology is able to turn sulfur-sour crude into a sweeter intermediate-grade oil worth much more per barrel.

"Basically, we can take bad oil and turn it into good oil very economically," Peter Gunnerman, son of SulphCo's founder Rudolf W. Gunnerman, told Barron's.

SulphCo has contracts with several interested parties, but last June ChevronTexaco quietly dropped its interest in SulphCo's Sonocracking project, Barron's said.

SulphCo is finishing a small demonstration plant in Korea, originally slated to open in November.

SulphCo stock has quadrupled since October. Its stock closed up 5.89 percent at $19.60 per share Friday on the New York Stock Exchange.

Aktuelle Nachricht:

Sparks’ Sulphco: Deal With Emirate Is a Breakthrough

The president of SulphCo Inc. says his company’s contract with a nation in the United Arab Emirates marks SulphCo’s breakthrough.

SulphCo Inc. signed a deal with the Government of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates to form jointly a new company to introduce and implement SulphCo’s Sonocracking technology.

The Sparks company said last week the new entity will be 50 percent owned by the Government of Fujairah and 50 percent by SulphCo.
Peter Gunnerman, president of SulphCo, said the contract comes after three years of marketing in the Middle East. He called it “a pretty big deal.”

“We’re a company that’s coming out of five years of research and development and are just entering the commercialization phase,” Gunnerman said. “We don’t have a revenue stream from the product in the field. But with this contract, we’ll be working in some of the significant oil markets that will speed up the ability to generate that revenue.”

Sonocracking technology uses ultrasound to pre-treat crude oil prior to refining, reducing sulfur and nitrogen. That, in turn, helps produce more gallons — as much as seven, the company claims — of usable oil per barrel.

The processing cost using SulphCo’s technology is “somewhere between 18 cents and 20 cents a barrel,” Gunnerman said, and a 30,000-barrel-per-day sonocracking unit would cost under $5 million.
“It’s just not an environment friendly technology, but it’s also a fairly large economic driver,” he added.

The company has been knocking on doors throughout the Middle East for two years, and set up its wholly owned subsidiary SulphCo Saudi Arabia Inc. in 2004.

The final contract scheduled to be signed this week will spell out the responsibilities of the partners. SulphCo will be responsible for providing the equipment and implementing the process. The Government of Fujairah will supply the land, undertake construction and of course, get SulphCo the contacts it needs within the region, according to Gunnerman.

While dealing with Kuwait Oil Company, Kuwait National Petroleum Company and Saudi Aramco — the oil majors in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia — SulphCo executives learned that a foreign concern couldn’t simply go and market directly to the oil companies.

“You need an in-country partner, a trading company that will do your introduction and will be the interface,” Gunnerman said. “And the contact in UAE spawned out of the initial contacts in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia where we also established our own subsidiary.”

The company has various levels of contacts to spread word about its technology in Europe, Asia and South America.

In September, it installed a sonocracking plant in Seoul, South Korea. In October it signed a test agreement with Total France to evaluate the technical viability of its technology. In Venezuela and Mexico, contacts with oil companies are in the early stages, Gunnerman added, though they’re more advanced in Mexico.

U.S. companies’ reception to SulphCo’s technology has been reserved.
The company had a collaboration agreement with Chevron Texaco for several years but no deal resulted. Other companies in the country have shown no interest, and Gunnerman is not sure why.

“Perhaps it’s just the market conditions,” he said. “The U.S. refineries are finally making money after many years of not making money. So they don’t want to be bothered. Or may be it’s just a cultural issue. International companies appear to be more open to new technologies and working with a small company.”
