Official figures prove green sector is defying the recession
Post Date: 25 May 2012
The UK's low carbon, environmental goods and services sector grew by 4.7% in the last year, adding £5.4bn to the economy.
Growth is led in particular by the increasing use of alternative fuels such as biofuels, wind power, building technologies and heat pumps. ...The countries with the fastest growth in this sector are predominantly from the developing world: the Philippines (39%), Ukraine (16%), Pakistan (15%), the Czech Republic (13%), Saudi Arabia (13%), Turkey (13%) and Brazil (12%), mostly because they are starting from a lower base.
The report says that growth projections in the sector as a whole demonstrate a steady and sustainable trajectory, with annual forecasts increasing from 3.9% to 4%. Renewable energy shows the highest level of growth at 4.5%, with environmental services lowest at 3.4%.
The sub-sectors that are forecast to have the highest global growth rates for the current year are predicted to be carbon finance at 9.2%, additional energy sources at 9.1% and wind power at 5.2%. The lowest growth rates would be for nuclear power at 2.1%.

Goldman Sachs annual meeting in Jersey City commits $40bn to renewable energy projects
Post Date: 25 May 2012 ...As the Godfather of Wall Street, the investor confidence that Goldman Sachs is showing towards clean tech industries in general, and to renewable energy in particular, is significant. Where Goldman Sachs leads, other profit-hungry investors are sure to follow.

In a separate positive move, Reuters also report that Goldman Sachs has pledged to “reduce its own net carbon emissions to zero by 2020”.

Big Wind blows into Brighton
Credit: By Ed Barber, The Newport Daily Express, newportvermontdailyexpress.com 8 May 2012 ~~
ISLAND POND – With strong local opposition to the construction of wind farms and/or “demonstration” projects in Orleans County, what will be the reaction to residents of Brighton, Newark and Ferdinand about the proposed wind farm by energy development company Eolian Renewable Energy LLC?
Eolian filed for a Certificate for Public Good on April 12, proposing the construction of four wind testing towers. One of the 185-foot towers will be located in the town of Ferdinand, one in Newark and two will be located in Brighton. The testing period will be for five years, although Eolian can begin the process for approval of 12-25 towers sited in these towns.
… Eolian also has one project underway in New Hampshire and two in Maine, in early stages of development.
Based in Portsmouth, NH, Eolian is owned by Jack and Drew Kenworthy, who started the company several years ago. The project has a co-partnership with Nordex USA, Inc., a subsidiary of Nordex Energy GmbH, an international energy conglomerate. Nordex is a manufacturer of utility scale wind turbines and is headquartered in Chicago, IL.

was für was für Anlagen plant man da so?
The size of the turbine towers and blades have not been selected, Eisenberg said, but the tower could be 100 or 80 meters high with blades as long as 117 feet. He said the product selection will happen after all the studies have been completed. www.wind-watch.org/news/2012/04/20/wind-developer-updates-rrpc/
