Jobless claims rise 8,000

First-time filings for state unemployment benefits rose by 8,000 to 419,000 in the latest reporting week, the highest level in a month, the Labor Department reported Thursday. The jobless claims number has risen for three weeks in a row now. Most economists expect the May national unemployment rate, which will be reported Friday, to have risen to 4.6 percent
