Intershop Gains a Strong Foothold in the Latin American Market

Intershop Signs Major Customers in Financial, Entertainment

And Chemicals Industries

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Intershop Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:ISHP; Neuer Markt: ISH), a leading provider of e-business applications for global companies, today announced that it has added three market-leading companies to its fast-growing base of customers in Latin America. Banamex, Mexico's largest financial institution; Cipatex, the top plastics producer in Brazil; and El Foco, a subsidiary CIE, Latin America's largest live event producer, have all selected Intershop products as the foundation for their e-commerce offerings.

Further strengthening Intershop's presence in the region, the company has appointed Arturo Osorio as the new vice president of sales for Latin America. Arturo Osorio was formerly the COO for Mobilestop Worldwide Operations, an ASP for mobile business solutions with offices in Sweden, US, Brazil, Argentina and Iceland. He also served as vice president of operations of Brighstar Corp., a value-added distributor of wireless services for the telecommunication industry. Mr. Osorio has extensive knowledge of the Latin America e-commerce industry with more than 12 years of experience in the region.

"With the addition of these blue-chip customers, Intershop is gaining a strong foothold in the fast-growing Latin American market," said Stephan Schambach, CEO, and Intershop. "With Arturo's background in selling to enterprises, coupled with his knowledge of the special requirements of the Latin American market, we are strategically positioned to experience continued success in this region. We're extremely pleased that Arturo will be leading Intershop's efforts in this region."

Top Latin American Companies Choose Intershop

Banamex, one of Mexico's largest financial institutions, used Intershop technology to create plazabanamex.com, an online portal offering banking and business services to merchants and consumers. Banamex links existing affiliates to plazabanamex.com, exposing them to a wider audience. Merchant offerings include implementation, application and site hosting of e-businesses, and integration with existing systems. For consumers, plazabanamex.com provides commercial content on Latin celebrities and popular television programming, product information from local and international vendors, and tools for comparison shopping.

Cipatex, the leading plastics plant in Brazil, chose Enfinity to build a portal that services the specialized needs of its large number of chemical suppliers. This business-to-business portal, Facilis, is focused on the third generation of chemical/plastics market, where the processed resins are purchased and manufactured into multi-purpose products that can be used in apparel, tires, disposable products (including diapers and tissues) and medical instruments. Facilis connects companies to suppliers, manufacturers and common business services, such as banking, logistics, sales support, ERP, and maintenance, repair and operations providers (MRO). Facilis plans to have 150 portals integrated with their initial investment and initially has entered the plastics, chemical and shoe industries. Cipatex plans to expand the solution into the steel and food industries..

El Foco is a subsidiary of Grupo Financiero Inbursa (www.inbursa.com.mx) and CIE, one of the largest media and entertainment companies in Latin America, which also manages several venues, owns and operates seven radio stations in Argentina, and has various film production and distribution. El Foco is the entertainment Web portal aimed at Latin America and Spain with a base of 620,000 subscribers and a total of approximately 66 million page views per month. Elfoco.com is the first site in Latin America that specializes in live entertainment, offering a wide range of services such as on-line chats, free e-mail, search engines, free information downloads, informational newsletters, calendars and e-commerce.

"Latin America is becoming an important strategic market as more and more regional companies are increasing their presence in the global online marketplace," said Arturo Osorio, the new vice president of Latin America, Intershop. According to the new eLatin America Report from eMarketer, overall e-commerce revenues, fueled by advances in the B2B segment, will increase substantially to $67 billion by 2004. "The fact that market leaders Banamex, CIE and Cipatex have based their e-commerce offerings on Intershop demonstrates the strength of our offerings, and I look forward to establishing Intershop as the dominant e-commerce vendor in this region."
