The BlueBird 6 mission lifted off at 10:25 p.m. EST on December 23 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, India. BlueBird 6 becomes now the largest commercial communications array ever deployed in low Earth orbit, spanning nearly 2,400 square feet, three times larger than AST SpaceMobile’s previous record-breaking BlueBirds 1-5, engineered to deliver commercial and government applications, including high-speed 4G and 5G space-based cellular broadband directly to standard, unmodified smartphones, and government applications that benefit from the power, size, and patented technology of AST SpaceMobile’s BlueBird spacecrafts.

Today’s successful launch kicks off our next phase of execution and keeps us on track to launch 45–60 satellites by the end of 2026, with launches planned every one or two months on average.
BlueBird 6 was assembled, integrated, and tested at AST SpaceMobile’s manufacturing facilities in Midland, Texas. The company was named among firms eligible to compete for work under the Missile Defense Agency's Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense, or SHIELD, program, according to a Thursday press release.

SHIELD is part of the U.S. government's broader Golden Dome strategy, which aims to strengthen layered defenses across air, missile, space, cyber, and hybrid threat domains. The program is designed to support next-generation technologies that can operate across multiple environments.

Deutsche ups AST SpaceMobile target on higher valuation multiple

Deutsche Bank raised the firm’s price target on AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) to $137 from $81 and keeps a Buy rating on the shares. The firm rolled forward its share valuation given the new year and AST’s EBITDA multiple to 20-times from 15. The reason for the increase in Deutsche’s 2030 valuation multiple is that its new forecast exits 2030 with a 60% higher EBITDA growth rate of 40%, the analyst tells investors in a research note. The firm believes AST has the partnerships in place to be successful and scale its direct-to-device business.

AST SpaceMobile, a provider of low-Earth orbit satellite architecture, surged after announcing its upcoming launch schedule.

The company plans to launch its BlueBird 7 commercial communications array in late February, as part of Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin New Glenn-3 mission.

The mission will launch from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station's Launch Complex 36. The exact timing of the launch is still subject to change based on weather conditions and readiness of the New Glenn launcher system, as well as other factors.

The BlueBird 7 is the second satellite in AST SpaceMobile's next-generation constellation. The satellite array provides a space-based cellular broadband network for everyday smartphones. This mission marks the first time AST has utilized Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket.

Musk estimates that within two to three years, the most cost-effective way to generate AI compute will be in space, as Big Tech companies spend hundreds of billions in the pursuit of artificial general intelligence, a theoretical milestone where machines could surpass human capabilities in cognitive tasks.
