Talk Amer Resolves California Regulatory Issue



RESTON, Va. -(Dow Jones)- Talk America Holdings Inc. confirmed it received approval from the California Public Utility Commission for the settlement it agreed to in March relating to certain discontinued marketing practices related to its long-distance service that date back to 1997.

As reported, the company will make various payments totaling $1 million under the settlement.

In a press release Friday, the communications provider said the full amount of the settlement was reserved for as of Dec. 31, 2001 , and the initial cash portion of the settlement was paid in the first quarter of this year.

"We are pleased that this issue is finally resolved and reflects another milestone for Talk America in a continuing trend of positive events for our company," stated Gabe Battista, chairman and chief executive, in the release.

Shares of Talk America recently traded at $4.04, down 1.5%, on composite volume of about 1.3 million shares. Average daily volume is 773,803 shares.
