TOURNIGAN TAKES FIRST STEP TO PRODUCTION IN CURRAGHINALT
(CCNMatthews - July 22, 2004) -
AMEC selected to develop a mine plan for Curraghinalt Gold
Project.
Over the last 12 months, Tournigan has drilled 23 holes for 3,000
metres at Curraghinalt, Northern Ireland, in addition to 150
pre-existing holes for 14,000 metres, totaling 173 holes and
17,000 metres. The pre-existing drilling has been the basis for
two historic scoping studies by Redpath Engineering Inc. and
Downey & Associates Ltd. which have positively supported the
development of a mine at Curraghinalt.
As a result, AMEC Americas Ltd has been chosen to complete a
Pre-feasibility Study on Curraghinalt for delivery in early
October. As part of the AMEC study, Aurum Exploration Limited and
Prehenita S.L. will produce an updated resource estimation to
National Instrument 43-101 standards.
Pre-Feasibility Study
AMEC Americas Ltd, a large international engineering firm, has
prepared in the last ten years detailed feasibility studies
and/or engineering designs for more than 20 gold projects with
resources of up to 7 million ounces. Utilizing their Enhanced
Systematic Planning program, AMEC has been commissioned to
deliver a mine design which is currently expected to deliver
50,000 oz of production per annum. AMEC's engineers, representing
Environmental, Geology, Infrastructure, Mining and Waste
Management disciplines, have conducted an initial site visit at
Curraghinalt, confirming the projected October delivery schedule.
Curraghinalt Resource Estimation
The historical resource estimate for Curraghinalt, based on the
150 pre-existing drill holes mentioned above, is not 43-101
compliant but has undergone a multi-faceted review. The estimate
reported 468,097 tonnes grading 16.96 grams of gold per tonne for
255,000 ounces. This historical resource was diluted over a
minimum mining width of 1.25 metres, utilizing a cutoff of 6
grams per tonne. Tournigan's recently-completed infill drilling
program was designed to upgrade this resource into a Measured and
Indicated category as well as converting historical waste zones
into ore. This Tournigan data will be combined into the new
National Instrument 43-101 resource estimation currently
underway. The ability for future increases in production will be
incorporated into the mine design as Curraghinalt's substantial
exploration potential is fully developed.
" Curraghinalt entering production will support Tournigan's
objective of becoming a European gold mining company. Tournigan
is looking forward to working with AMEC as we develop the first
commercial gold mine in Northern Ireland" states Damien Reynolds,
President and CEO of Tournigan.
Tournigan Gold is focused on developing two advanced gold
projects in Europe - Curraghinalt in Northern Ireland and
Kremnica in Slovakia.
