Shares in Freenet rise 7.5 percent to the top of Frankfurt's
technology index, boosted by a report in German magazine Euro am
Sonntag that is renewing speculation the telecoms group's DSL unit may still be
a takeover target for internet service provider United Internet.
'If Freenet would agree to our last offer, we would be willing to enter new
talks,' the magazine quoted an unidentified spokesman of United Internet as
saying.
'With the resignation of Freenet CEO Eckhard Spoerr, chances are increasing
that United Internet will take over Freenet's DSL business,' a trader says.
Freenet said on Dec. 22 Spoerr would resign from his job, with the
resignation effective from Jan. 23.
Shares in United Internet gain 1.9 percent on the TecDAX.
