Die Biometrie! Nahe Zukunft oder noch fern??

Paradoxerweise fiel Digital Biometrics elf Jahre später Visonics zum Opfer, die das Unternehmen aufkauften. Mit diesem Erwerb baute Visionics seine Marktanteile bei den Fingerprintersystem weiter aus. Identix entwickelte sich jedoch im Laufe der Zeit zum Branchenprimus bei den biometrischen Fingerabdrucksystemen und gilt inzwischen als Marktführer für diese Systeme. Über 50% seiner Umsätze erzielt das Unternehmen mit der US-Regierungsbehörden (Polizei, FBI, Justizministerium, Militär und Pentagon). Seit dem Terroranschlag am 11.September 2001 sind es jetzt verstärkt die nationalen und internationalen Flughäfen, die die Systeme von Identix installieren. So vergeht kaum eine Woche, in der das Unternehmen nicht einen neuen Auftrag von einem Airport bekannt gibt.

Was bisher aber nur Regierungseinrichtungen und großen Unternehmen vorbehalten war, soll nach der Vision von Identix bald zum Alltag in unserem Leben werden. So arbeitet das Unternehmen inzwischen mit großen Computer- und Notebook Herstellern wie Dell, Compaq und Toshiba eng zusammen um die Biometrieschen Systeme alltagstauglich zu machen. Mit dem entwickelten Personen-Identifizierungssystem "Touch NetII" das aus einem speziellen Lesegerät und der BioLogon Software besteht, sollen in Zukunft Zugangs- und Nutzungsberichtungen für Computer- und Netzwerkanwendungen, anhand der Fingerrillen des Nutzers,vergeben werden.

Keine Zukunft mehr - Identifikation per Fingerdruck
Dieses Verfahren soll in Zukunft Passwörter, Chipkarten und persönliche Codes überflüssig machen. So könnten die lästigen TAN´s und PIN´s beim Onlinebanking bald der Vergangenheit angehören und den Banken enorme Kosteneinsparungen bringen. Zudem stellen diese Systeme eine höhere Benutzerfreundlichkeit dar und gelten als die sichersten Identifikationssysteme die es zur Zeit gibt.

Fazit: Nach ersten Schätzungen soll der Markt für Biometrische Produkte bis 2005 auf über 900Mio.USD ansteigen. Durch den Zusammenschluss der beiden Unternehmen ist Identix zum unumstrittenen Marktführer in diesem noch so jungen Sektor aufgestiegen und wird somit mit meisten vom anstehenden Boom profitieren. Bereits in den ersten 6Monaten des Geschäftsjahr 2002 erzielte das Unternehmen einen Umsatz von 36Mio. USD. Rechnet man nun die Umsätze von Visionics mit hoch, dürfte Identix bereits in diesem Jahr die 100Mio.USD Umsatz-Schallmauer durchbrechen. Die Cash-Reserven beider Unternehmen sind mit insgesamt 90Mio. USD ausreichend um das neue Unternehmen in Ruhe in Richtung Gewinnzone zu steuern. Auf der anderen Seite ist die Marktbewertung von über 700Mio. USD (Beide Unternehmen zusammen gerechnet) schon recht hoch, so das wir interessierten Anlegern empfehlen erst einmal abzuwarten. Wir gehen davon aus, das der Kurs von Identix, nach dem endgültigen Merger-Abschluß noch mal deutlich zurückkommen wird. Vieles hängt jedoch davon ab, ob sich die Biometriesysteme auch im Alltag durchsetzen werden und somit zum Massenprodukt werden.

Das Flaggschiff ist aber FaceIT, eine Software mit der es möglich ist, innerhalb von einer Minute bis zu 60Mio. Gesichter aus einer Datenbank mit einem Videobild zu vergleichen. Mit Hilfe einer Überwachungskamera und der FaceIT-Software wird eine sogenannter Gesichtsbadruck gespeichert. Dabei analysiert die Software das Gesicht auf 14Merkmale. "Gesichter haben einzigartige Merkmale, die dadurch entstehen, dass die dreidimensionale Struktur eines Gesichtes auf einer zweidimensionalen Fläche durchscheint. Auf einem Bild entstehen so Veränderungen im Muster der Schatten" so CEO Dr. Joseph J. Atick. Insgesamt hat das Gesicht ca. 80 Knotenpunkte, die vom Computer als lokale Muster erkannt und identifiziert werden. Das Geheimnis der modernen Gesichtserkennung liegt in der Datenreduktion, die die immens große Datenmenge auf bis zu 84Bytes reduziert. Eingesetzt werden diese Systeme vor allem in großen öffentlichen Gebäuden, wie z.Bsp. Flughafen, Banken, Behörden oder Einkaufszentren. Doch mit dem Internet öffnet sich ein weiterer Markt für die FaceIT-Technologie. So soll es in nächster Zeit eine WebCam für den PC geben, mit der eine Identifizierung von einer Person im Cyberspace möglich ist. So erzielte Visonics in den ersten 9Moanten im Geschäftsjahr 2001 einen Umsatz von 22,3Mio. USD. Allein im 3.Quartal stieg der Umsatz auf 8,1Mio. USD an und der Verlust wurde auf 1Cent/Aktie reduziert. Damit steht das Unternehmen kurz davor profitabel zu arbeiten.

Fazit: Nach dem Terroranschlag in Amerika wird die gesamte Sicherheitsbranche in den nächsten Jahren einen regelrechten Boom erleben. So beschloss der US-Senat erst vor kurzem, die Sicherheitsausgaben drastisch zu erhöhen. Auch die Behörden und vor allem die Fluggesellschaften werden Ihre jetzigen Sicherheitsvorkehrungen überdenken müssen und neue Systeme einführen. Visionics ist mit seinem Produktportfolie bestens positioniert. Zudem sind die Indentifikationssysteme der Gesellschaft bereits in einigen Behörden, Flughäfen, usw. im Einsatz. Zwar legte die Aktie seit dem 11.09.2001 schon über 350% zu, doch sollten risikobereite Anleger kleinere Rückschläge (unter 10USD) zum Kauf nutzen, da das Unternehmen bereits 2002 enorme Umsatz- und Gewinnsteigerungen, wegen der wachsenden Nachfrage vorweisen könnte.

Die Aktie von Visionics lief seit unserer Empfehlung weiter sehr gut, bis auf 18USD /Aktie. Im Oktober stieg eine private Investmentgesellschaft mit 20Mio. USD (1,8Mio. neue Aktien) beim Biometriespezialisten ein. Mit Hilfe dieser Finanzierung, kann Visionics seine Aktivitäten verstärkt ausbauen und damit seine Ausnahmestellung im Markt der Biometrietechnologie festigen.

Der 11.September 2001 veränderte die WeltDie Biometrie bezeichnet man als ein Verfahren, die eine Person anhand physiologischer Charakteristika (Fingerabdruck, Gesicht, Muster der Iris) oder Verhaltensweisen (Stimme, Bewegung, Unterschrift) automatisiert erkennt. Dazu wird der menschlichen Körper automatisiert und vermessen. Bei der erstmaligen Benutzung wird ein Datensatz gespeichert (wie ein Passbild) und bei weiteren Benutzungen werden die aktuellen Messwerte mit diesem Datensatz verglichen (wie bei einer Passkontrolle). Visionics gehört mit zu den weltweiten Entwicklern von Identifikations-Technologien / und Systeme. Fazit: Sollte die Testphase der FaceIT Technologie in einem der größten Airports Amerikas erfolgreich verlaufen, könnte dies, den endgültigen Durchbruch für das Unternehmen bedeuten, da mit Millionenschweren Folgeaufträgen zu rechnen ist. Die Aktie könnte aber in den nächsten Wochen noch mal unter 10USD fallen, da die Luft erst mal raus ist. Langfristig orientierte Anleger sollten diese Kurse jedoch zum Kauf nutzen, da Visionics im Gegensatz zu anderen Unternehmen der Branche ,unserer Meinung nach über die bessere Produktpalette verfügt

Der Biometriespezialist Visionics vermeldete für das 1.Quartal 2002 einen Umsatz von 7.5Mio. USD was einer Steigerung von gerade mal 4% zum Vorjahr entspricht. Der Verlust konnte aber im Gegenzug um 45% auf 1,6Mio. USD (0,06/Aktie) verringert werden. Vor allem die Fingerprint-Systeme sind bereits in über 40Flughäfen im Einsatz. Das Identifikationssystem FaceIT befindet sich dagegen noch bei zahlreichen Airports in der Testphase, so das hier noch keine großen Aufträge verzeichnet wurden. Jedoch konnte Visionics wichtige Allianzen mit großen US-Konzernen wie Raytheon, Tyco und Honeywell vereinbaren, die das Marketing und den Vertrieb der FaceIT Technologie weiter fördern werden. Mit der 20Mio USD Privatplatzierung im vergangen Jahr verfügt das Unternehmen aktuell über einen Cash-Anteil von 32Mio. USD und ist damit bestens positioniert seine Wachstumsstrategie erfolgreich fortzuführen. Das Management geht davon aus, das die Umsätze in diesem Jahr zwischen 30-50% zulegen. Auf Grund weiterer Investitionen rechnet man nun jedoch erst für Ende des Jahres
mit dem BreakEven.

Fazit: Die große Hype bei den Biomentrieaktien ist vorbei und die Kurse haben seit Ihren ATH wieder deutlich nachgegeben. So notiert nun auch Visionics seit geraumer Zeit zwischen 10-12USD. Die Vereinbarungen mit den beiden großen US-Mischkonzernen Tyco und Honeywell geben Visionics aber einen sehr großen Vorteil beim Vertrieb seiner Produkte, so das dass Unternehmen langfristig mit zu den großen Gewinnern im Biometriesektor gehören wird. IBIS ist ein mobiles Identifikations-System, mit dem u.a. die FaceIT-Software und der Fingerprinter für den mobilen Einsatz genutzt werden kann und der Polizei somit schnelles und effektives Handeln erlaubt. Die erfassten Daten werden mit Hilfe moderner Kommunikationsmittel an den IBIS-Server geleitet, der diese in sekundenschnelle auswertet und das Ergebnis weiterleitet. In Ontario / Kalifornien wird dieses System bereits erfolgreich eingesetzt. Schon jetzt sind die Biometrischen Identifikationsverfahren in vielen öffentlichen Gebäuden, Behörden und auch Flughäfen im Einsatz.

Am 15.11.2001 legte das Unternehmen aus Jersey seine Zahlen für das Geschäftsjahr 2001 vor. Der Umsatz legte um 19% auf 30,5Mio. USD zu. Der operative Verlust belief sich auf 9Cent/Aktie und der Nettoverlust incl. Abschreibungen lag bei 24Cent/Aktie. Das Unternehmen zeigt sich für das nächste Jahr weiter sehr optimistisch und veranschlagt ein Umsatzplus von bis zu 50%. Für das 1.Halbjahr 2002 rechnet Visionics, auf Grund von Pilotprojekten noch mit einem Verlust. Für das 2.Halbjahr sollen aber bereits erste Gewinne erwirtschaftet werden. Eines dieser Pilotprojekte für die FaciIT Technolgogie findet z.Zeit ein einem der größten Airports in Amerika statt, der aus Sicherheitsgründen noch nicht genannt werden konnte. Sollte diese Testphase positiv ausfallen, könnte dies der Durchbruch für die Gesichtserkenungstechnologie von Visionics bedeuten.

Weitere Aufträge konnte das Unternehmen zudem für sein Fingerprintersystem entgegennehmen. Weiter verkündete man vor kurzem eine Zusammenarbeit mit der schwedischen Firma WeSpot, die sich auf Überwachungskameras und Systeme spezialisiert hat. Die Auslieferung der ersten gemeinsamen Systeme soll bereits 2002 erfolgen und vor allem im Heimanwender- und Einzelhandelsbereich eingesetzt werden.News  
22.02.02 Die beiden Unternehmen Identix und Visionics geben den Zusammenschluss beider Unternehmen an. Der Zusammenschluss sieht vor, das Visionics Aktionäre Ihren Aktie (zum Kurs von $9.34) im Verhältnis 1:1,3436 in Identix Aktien tauschen. The face finding technology works in real time and it is able to control the auto-focus even if the person moves or the photographer recomposes the picture. The feature works effectively for both horizontal and vertical positions or even if the camera is tilted. Identix said it has received a new purchase order valued at approximately $1.1 million from NEC for multiple units of its recently introduced Identix Live Scan TouchPrint Enhanced Definition 3000 Series. NEC incorporates Identix' live scan systems as part of the NEC LS 21 workstation. Including today's announced purchase order, Identix has received purchase orders from NEC for Identix live scan systems totaling approximately $2.0 million over the past three months.
