CORD BLOOD AMERICA INCORPORATED (OTCBB:CBAI) "Up 40.00% on Thursday"

Detailed Quote: http://www.otcpicks.com/quotes/CBAI.php

Cord Blood America is the parent company of CorCell, which facilitates umbilical cord blood stem cell preservation for expectant parents and their children. Its mission is to be the most respected stem cell preservation company in the industry. Collected through a safe and non-invasive process, cord blood stem cells offer a powerful and potentially life-saving resource for treating a growing number of ailments, including cancer, leukemia, blood, and immune disorders.

CBAI News:

January 27 - With the Embryonic Stem Cell Trial Cleared by the FDA as a Key Indicator, Cord Blood America Announces Expansion Plans for Its Stem Cell Storage Program

More Stem Cell Agenda News Expected From the Obama Administration This Week

Cord Blood America, Inc. (OTCBB:CBAI), the umbilical cord blood stem cell preservation company focused on bringing the life saving potential of stem cells to families nationwide and internationally, said that it intends a rapid expansion of its health insurance partnership program to new geographies in 2009. This announcement from Cord Blood America comes on the heels of last week's announcement that the Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. government will allow the world's first test in people of a therapy derived from human embryonic stem cells. For more information, see the social media news room at www.intelligendo.com.

Founder and CEO Matthew Schissler, in reviewing the domestic stem cell industry, predicts that 2009 will be an excellent, milestone year for stem cell storage companies, including CBAI. "Now is the right time. We have focused our business on three primary locations for several years, developing deep relationships with health insurance providers to become their recommended source for storage of umbilical cord blood stem cells."

Mr. Schissler says Cord Blood America's stem cell storage subsidiary, CorCell, will attempt to enter into contracts with two or three more geographic health insurance providers, which would double the company's current health insurance provider base.

"With a national health insurance plan and stem cell agenda as two of the primary topics from the new administration, we see a marriage of the insurance companies possibly paying for stem cell storage on the horizon, even if it is on a limited basis for high risk families. By developing the insurance sales channel, we feel we are positioning ourselves for long term success in becoming a globally dominant stem cell storage company."

Mr. Schissler went on to say that the growth will have limited cost because all infrastructure needed has been put into place over the course of many years.

CBAI has a history of being able to finance its growth, with the most recent funding of $4 million transacting in July of 2008. "With a very low cash burn, we feel we're well financed for the next few years," Schissler commented. "We'll use this time to get cash flow positive and reduce debt while growing both organically and through accretive acquisitions."

The company also is reporting tremendous success in engaging its clients, prospective clients, shareholders and prospective investors via social media with the help and intuition of NetGenPR (www.netgenpr.com). Cord Blood America is currently on Twitter, Facebook and Intelligendo, and soon to be available on FriendFeed. Cord Blood America's address on Twitter is www.twitter.com/cbai. "The conversation has begun. Groups from all over are discussing the impact of stem cells on every day life. We're glad we can lead and moderate this information, while trying to be a stem cell company of the people."

As previously reported, from 2003 to 2007, CBAI focused on growth. In 2008, the Company changed its tactics attempting to de-lever the company while becoming purely a stem cell storage company, and in the process de-emphasizing its non-core family advertising business.

As such, Cord Blood America has reported through first nine months:

* Gross profits for the first nine months have increased to $1.8 million, a 54 percent margin, compared to a 42 percent margin in 2007.

* SGA is down nearly $900,000, a 23 percent savings.

* Loss from operations is down nearly 20 percent.

* Loss per share is down 60 percent, from 0.05 to 0.02.

"We believe 2009 to be a turning point year for CBAI. We're excited to get going," Mr. Schissler concluded.

Obama 'guarantees' stem cell approval

washingtontimes.com/news/2009/feb/06/...ntees-aiding-stem-cell

The Washington Times - Feb 05 8:33 PM

WILLIAMSBURG| President Obama on Thursday gave lawmakers his "guarantee" he will sign an executive order overturning President Bush's embryonic stem cell research policy.

Meeting with House Democrats holding a retreat here, Mr. Obama answered a question from Rep. James R. Langevin, a Rhode Island Democrat who is a paraplegic, by saying he will sign the order, according to three sources who were in the closed-door part of the meeting.

"I guarantee you that we will sign an executive order for stem cells," Mr. Obama said, according to the sources who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the closed-door portion of the meeting.

Mr. Obama said the executive order would be coordinated with Congress on timing, and said it was important that Congress also pass a law codifying his order so that a future president couldn't simply reverse the policy back.

"The stem cell agenda is front and center with the new Administration," Mr. Schissler said.

Cord Blood America's CEO also referenced the cover story of the new Time magazine, which cited breakthroughs using stem cells to treat Parkinson's, heart disease and diabetes. "Investors should understand, in storing umbilical cord blood stem cells, we have a significant biological annuity with low bad debt ratio, strong gross profits, and a low cost structure in place that will allow us to take full advantage of the expected increase in the storage of stem cells," the Company's founder said.

HEALTH CARE

On health care reform, the American people are too often offered two extremes -- government-run health care with higher taxes or letting the insurance companies operate without rules. President Obama and Vice President Biden believe both of these extremes are wrong, and that’s why they’ve proposed a plan that strengthens employer coverage, makes insurance companies accountable and ensures patient choice of doctor and care without government interference.

The Obama-Biden plan provides affordable, accessible health care for all Americans, builds on the existing health care system, and uses existing providers, doctors, and plans. Under the Obama-Biden plan, patients will be able to make health care decisions with their doctors, instead of being blocked by insurance company bureaucrats.

Under the plan, if you like your current health insurance, nothing changes, except your costs will go down by as much as $2,500 per year. If you don’t have health insurance, you will have a choice of new, affordable health insurance options.
Make Health Insurance Work for People and Businesses -- Not Just Insurance and Drug Companies.

   * Require insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions so all Americans regardless of their health status or history can get comprehensive benefits at fair and stable premiums.
   * Create a new Small Business Health Tax Credit to help small businesses provide affordable health insurance to their employees.

   * Lower costs for businesses by covering a portion of the catastrophic health costs they pay in return for lower premiums for employees.
   * Prevent insurers from overcharging doctors for their malpractice insurance and invest in proven strategies to reduce preventable medical errors.
   * Make employer contributions more fair by requiring large employers that do not offer coverage or make a meaningful contribution to the cost of quality health coverage for their employees to contribute a percentage of payroll toward the costs of their employees' health care.
   * Establish a National Health Insurance Exchange with a range of private insurance options as well as a new public plan based on benefits available to members of Congress that will allow individuals and small businesses to buy affordable health coverage.
   * Ensure everyone who needs it will receive a tax credit for their premiums.

Reduce Costs and Save a Typical American Family up to $2,500 as reforms phase in:

   * Lower drug costs by allowing the importation of safe medicines from other developed countries, increasing the use of generic drugs in public programs, and taking on drug companies that block cheaper generic medicines from the market.
   * Require hospitals to collect and report health care cost and quality data.
   * Reduce the costs of catastrophic illnesses for employers and their employees.
   * Reform the insurance market to increase competition by taking on anticompetitive activity that drives up prices without improving quality of care.

The Obama-Biden plan will promote public health. It will require coverage of preventive services, including cancer screenings, and increase state and local preparedness for terrorist attacks and natural disasters.

A Commitment to Fiscal Responsibility: Barack Obama will pay for his $50 - $65 billion health care reform effort by rolling back the Bush tax cuts for Americans earning more than $250,000 per year and retaining the estate tax at its 2009 level.

Man appears free of HIV after stem cell transplant

By Jacquelyne Froeber
Health

A 42-year-old HIV patient with leukemia appears to have no detectable HIV in his blood and no symptoms after a stem cell transplant from a donor carrying a gene mutation that confers natural resistance to the virus that causes AIDS, according to a report published Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine.
The patient underwent a stem cell transplant and since, has not tested positive for HIV in his blood.

"The patient is fine," said Dr. Gero Hutter of Charite Universitatsmedizin Berlin in Germany. "Today, two years after his transplantation, he is still without any signs of HIV disease and without antiretroviral medication."

The case was first reported in November, and the new report is the first official publication of the case in a medical journal. Hutter and a team of medical professionals performed the stem cell transplant on the patient, an American living in Germany, to treat the man's leukemia, not the HIV itself.

However, the team deliberately chose a compatible donor who has a naturally occurring gene mutation that confers resistance to HIV. The mutation cripples a receptor known as CCR5, which is normally found on the surface of T cells, the type of immune system cells attacked by HIV.

The mutation is known as CCR5 delta32 and is found in 1 percent to 3 percent of white populations of European descent.

HIV uses the CCR5 as a co-receptor (in addition to CD4 receptors) to latch on to and ultimately destroy immune system cells. Since the virus can't gain a foothold on cells that lack CCR5, people who have the mutation have natural protection. (There are other, less common HIV strains that use different co-receptors.)

People who inherit one copy of CCR5 delta32 take longer to get sick or develop AIDS if infected with HIV. People with two copies (one from each parent) may not become infected at all. The stem cell donor had two copies.

While promising, the treatment is unlikely to help the vast majority of people infected with HIV, said Dr. Jay Levy, a professor at the University of California San Francisco, who wrote an editorial accompanying the study. A stem cell transplant is too extreme and too dangerous to be used as a routine treatment, he said.

"About a third of the people die [during such transplants], so it's just too much of a risk," Levy said. To perform a stem cell transplant, doctors intentionally destroy a patient's immune system, leaving the patient vulnerable to infection, and then reintroduce a donor's stem cells (which are from either bone marrow or blood) in an effort to establish a new, healthy immune system.

Levy also said it's unlikely that the transplant truly cured the patient in this study. HIV can infect many other types of cells and may be hiding out in the patient's body to resurface at a later time, he said.

"This type of virus can infect macrophages (another type of white blood cell that expresses CCR5) and other cells, like the brain cells, and it could live a lifetime. But if it can't spread, you never see it-- but it's there and it could do some damage," he said. "It's not the kind of approach that you could say, 'I've cured you.' I've eliminated the virus from your body." Health.com: 10 questions to ask a new partner before having sex

Before undergoing the transplant, the patient was also found to be infected with low levels of a type of HIV known as X4, which does not use the CCR5 receptor to infect cells. So it would seem that this virus would still be able to grow and damage immune cells in his body. However, following the transplant, signs of leukemia and HIV were absent.

"There is no really conclusive explanation why we didn't observe any rebound of HIV," Hutter said. "This finding is very surprising."

Hutter noted that one year ago, the patient had a relapse of leukemia and a second transplant from the same donor. The patient experienced complications from the procedure, including temporary liver problems and kidney failure, but they were not unusual and may occur in HIV-negative patients, he said.

Researchers including Hutter agree that the technique should not be used to treat HIV alone. "Some people may say, 'I want to do it,'" said Levy. A more logical -- and potentially safer -- approach would be to develop some type of CCR5-disabling gene therapy or treatment that could be directly injected into the body, said Levy.

Less invasive options to alter CCR5 could be on the horizon within the next five years, said Levy. "It's definitely the wave of the future," he said. "As we continue to follow this one patient, we will learn a lot."

One drug that's currently on the market that blocks CCR5 is called maraviroc (Selzentry). It was first approved in 2007 and is used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs. Health.com: Who's most at risk for STDs?

In 2007, an estimated 2 million people died from AIDS, and 2.7 million people contracted HIV. More than 15 million women are infected worldwide. HIV/AIDS can be transmitted through sexual intercourse, sharing needles, pregnancy, breast-feeding, and/or blood transfusions with an infected person. Health.com:What should I do if the condom breaks?

"For HIV patients, this report is an important flicker of hope that antiretroviral therapy like HAART [highly active antiretroviral therapy] is not the endpoint of medical research," Hutter said.

Infection with the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) requires the presence of a CD4 receptor and a chemokine receptor, principally chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5). Homozygosity for a 32-bp deletion in the CCR5 allele provides resistance against HIV-1 acquisition. We transplanted stem cells from a donor who was homozygous for CCR5 delta32 in a patient with acute myeloid leukemia and HIV-1 infection. The patient remained without viral rebound 20 months after transplantation and discontinuation of antiretroviral therapy. This outcome demonstrates the critical role CCR5 plays in maintaining HIV-1 infection.

Obama to lift ban on stem cell research soon
Sun Feb 15, 2009 10:01am EST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama will soon issue an executive order lifting an eight-year ban embryonic stem cell research imposed by his predecessor, President George W. Bush, a senior adviser said on Sunday.

"We're going to be doing something on that soon, I think. The president is considering that right now," Obama adviser David Axelrod said on "Fox News Sunday."

In 2001, Bush limited federal funding for stem cell research only to human embryonic stem cell lines that already existed. It was a gesture to his conservative Christian supporters who regard embryonic stem cell research as destroying potential life, because the cells must be extracted from human embryos.

Embryonic stem cells are the most basic human cells which can develop into any type of cell in the body.

Scientists believe the research could eventually produce cures for a variety of diseases, including Parkinson's disease, diabetes, heart disease and spinal cord injuries.

Obama vowed to reverse Bush's ban during his presidential campaign and in his inaugural address last month promised to return science to its proper place in the United States.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration last month cleared the way for the first trial to see if human embryonic stem cells could treat people safely.

The trial will try to use stem cells from already existing lines to regrow nerve tissue in patients with crushed spinal cords.

Stem cells are the body's master cells, giving rise to all the tissues, organs and blood. Embryonic stem cells are considered the most powerful kinds of stem cells, as they have the potential to give rise to any type of tissue.

The complete interview is available at: http://www.stoxrox.com/cbai-2-18-09-e.mp3

In the interview, Mr. Schissler explains why the Company is asking for an increase in authorized shares. "Our goal is to be ahead of the game. We want to grow the Company into a global leader in the storage of stem cells and that includes the ability to act and react quickly. We also want to benefit from what we believe will be greatly increased research in this sector. This lets us control our destiny," Mr. Schissler said. Asked why Cord Blood America is asking for such a large increase in authorized shares, the Company's founder said "this is a time-consuming, costly process and we only want to do it once in the Company's history."

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- President Barack Obama lifted a ban on federal funding for stem-cell research, calling on Monday for a return to integrity in the government's scientific strategy. "It is about ensuring that scientific data is never distorted or concealed to serve a political agenda - and that we make scientific decisions based on facts, not ideology," Obama said. Stem-cell research has great promise for cures and treatments in many diseases, especially of the brain and nervous system. But most stem cells have come from human embryos. Obama said he would resist any research that leads to human cloning, calling it dangerous and "profoundly wrong.

Cord Blood America Applauds Congressional Effort Supporting Cord Blood Storage

SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cord Blood America, (News) Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: CBAI), the umbilical cord blood stem cell preservation company (www.cordblood-america.com/) focused on bringing the life saving potential of stem cells to families nationwide and internationally, said today it strongly supports the Family Cord Blood Banking Act introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The legislation will provide tax incentives for the medical expenses for those families choosing this potentially life-saving investment. It amends the Internal Revenue Code to add cord blood banking services as a qualified medical expense. "This would allow individuals and couples to pay for umbilical cord blood banking services through health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts, medical expenses tax deduction and health reimbursement arrangements," said Matthew Schissler, CEO and Founder, Cord Blood America.

The legislation was introduced by Representatives Wally Herger (R-CA.), Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI), Mike Thompson (D-CA), Artur Davis (D-AL), and Bill Pascrell Jr. (D-NJ). The Congressmen in a press statement said "umbilical cord blood stem cells have been used in more than 14,000 transplants around the world and to treat more than 70 diseases in adults and children. The legislation could make this storage an option for more families facing potentially life-threatening diseases, increase the supply of cord blood stem cells and lower the costs for families in the future."

Cord Blood Info

21.05.09 13:40
Cord Blood America is the parent company of CorCell, which facilitates umbilical cord blood stem cell preservation for expectant parents and their children. Its mission is to be the most respected stem cell preservation company in the industry. Collected through a safe and non-invasive process, cord blood stem cells offer a powerful and potentially life-saving resource for treating a growing number of ailments, including cancer, leukemia, blood, and immune disorders.

There is uniformity in the belief that stem cells will play a key role in fighting disease as we move forward through this century. Some scientists are confident that stem cells will launch a new era in medicine, perhaps even curing some of our most intractable diseases. The umbilical cord which, at birth, traditionally has been thrown away, contains a rich store of stem cells. Cord Blood America, Inc., through its wholly owned subsidiaries, CorCell Companies Inc., and Cord Partners, Inc., markets a service to preserve the umbilical cord blood in a patented process for future use exclusively by the donating family. The collection takes less than five minutes, is painless, easy and non-invasive. Cryogenically preserved umbilical cord stem cells have already been used to treat 75 major diseases, including leukemia, severe anemia, metabolic blood disorders and immune deficiencies. This list is guaranteed to grow as medical research learns more about the incredible healing power of stem cells.

Cord Blood America Says Debt Reduced $4.194 Million in 2009

SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cord Blood America, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: CBAI), the umbilical cord blood stem cell preservation company (www.cordblood-america.com ) focused on bringing the life saving potential of stem cells to families nationwide and internationally, said today that it has reduced its secured debt by a total of $4.194 million in the first five months of 2009.

"On April 6th, 2009, Cord Blood America announced it had decreased its debt by $1.75 million this year," said Matthew Schissler, Cord Blood America Founder and CEO. "Since that time, we have further reduced our secured debt by $1.627 million and have eliminated liquidated damages totaling $817,000."

"We have been very forthright with our investors. We have said there are three strong pillars needed to take CBAI to the next level. One is debt reduction, and today's announcement shows our achievement in that sector. The second is organic growth, and our deferred revenues for the first quarter were up 20 percent. The third pillar is acquisitions, and we recently announced Cord Blood America is in the process of building or buying a stem cell laboratory for increased acquisition capacity and higher gross margin," Mr. Schissler said.

"Our strategy for 2009 is in place and we stand by our ability to perform and to make all three pillars strong and sturdy. We urge our shareholders to follow our progress in these important sectors," Cord Blood America's founder said.

Obama fördert Stammzellenforschung in den USA
09.03.2009

-- Company Enters Lucrative Markets of Panama, Bermuda and Aruba with Marketing Partner --

SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cord Blood America, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: CBAI), one of the largest umbilical cord blood stem cell preservation companies (www.cordblood-america.com) focused on bringing the life saving potential of stem cells to families nationwide and internationally, which earlier this month announced sales operation expansion into the European Union, said today it has signed an agreement with a marketing affiliate for expansion of its services into Panama, Bermuda and Aruba. The marketing arrangement is expected to target hospitals and obstetricians/gynecologists in those areas. Cord Blood will receive revenue from the sale of cord blood processing and storage services sold to each family. Marketing of such services will commence immediately.

"We are excited to begin marketing our cord blood processing and storage services in areas where we have the first-mover advantage," said founder and CEO Matthew Schissler. "We will be the first party offering such services in Bermuda and Aruba, and the second party in Panama. Based upon the experience in North America, we believe that being first in the market will provide us with compelling advantages. We see the storage of stem cells internationally as potentially very profitable. While the size of these overall countries is relatively small, given the highly attractive demographics of their population we believe the opportunities could be lucrative. The advantages of storing stem cells at birth, and at other times in life, are becoming well known worldwide."

Panama, with a population of 3.3 million, has become an international business center in Central America, with a fast growing economy and the highest per capita consumer spending in the region. Aruba, an affluent island in the southern Caribbean, is overseen by the Netherlands, while Bermuda, a British territory in the North Atlantic, has previously had the world's highest GDP per capita.

Cord Blood America Highlights Significant 2009 Progress

SANTA MONICA, Calif. and LAS VEGAS, July 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cord Blood America, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: CBAI), one of the largest umbilical cord blood stem cell preservation companies (www.cordblood-america.com ) focused on bringing the life saving potential of stem cells to families nationwide and internationally, today said its accomplishments in the first half of 2009 are the most significant in the Company's history and Cord Blood America is progressing to its goal of being the most important company in stem cell storage in the world.

January 6 - Launched the first social media campaign in the industry to start a public conversation about the potential usefulness of stem cells and the importance of storing umbilical cord blood stem cells.
January 9 - Established its three pillars of success for 2009: Organic growth, acquisitions and debt reduction leading to a healthy balance sheet.
February 9 - The Obama Administration announces its plan and support of stem cell research in the United States; Cord Blood America is listed on the ETF Innovators Stem Cell 40 company index.
February 12 - CBAI announces $1 million reduction in long term debt.
February 25 - CBAI announces restructuring of long term debt to free up cash flow for the company.
March 5 - CBAI noted as the top stock performer on ETF Innovators Stem Cell index, with a year-to-date stock price increase of 279 percent.
April 5 - Congress introduces legislation to promote Family Banking of Umbilical Cord Blood stem cells; CBAI announces its total long term debt reduction at $1.75 million.
April 9 - CBAI announces its first customer in Germany, noting its dedication to organic growth.
April 23 - CBAI announces additional debt reduction of $817,000.
May 7 - CBAI says it will acquire or build its own stem cell processing and storage laboratory, eliminating the need to outsource lab services and projecting a significant increase in gross profit once complete.
May 14 - CBAI announces it received a $2.3 million commitment to finance the building of its stem cell lab.
May 27 - CBAI announces debt has been reduced by $4.194 million in 2009.
June 11- CBAI announces additional expansion in Europe.
June 22 - CBAI announces contracting independent affiliate to sell services in Caribbean and Central America.

Since the end of the mid-point of 2009, Cord Blood America has further secured $7.5 million in long term equity financing for growth and acquisition opportunities; announced it has begun building the one of the largest stem cell labs in the U.S.; and announced hiring of an experienced, successful management team to manage its new laboratory

"On January 6, 2009, the closing CBAI stock price was $0.0017. On July 10, 2009, the closing stock price was 0.0033, a 94% increase in 6 months of trading. That's not where we want to be, we are still very undervalued, and I understand that the day-to-day swings of our very liquid and volatile stock price cause some investor concern," said Matthew Schissler, Chairman and CEO. "I tell investors to take a snapshot of the last six months, not six hours. Micro cap stocks are perhaps not for the faint of heart. We believe we're building a very valuable company and this snapshot of the past six months shows our progress."

"In January, CBAI stated its mission is to lay the foundation for a much stronger healthier company by the end of 2009, which included organic growth, acquisition and debt reduction. As you can see by these highlights, we remain laser-focused on executing these strategies," Mr. Schissler said. "Because of our focus, we were able to raise significant funding to build a lab with the future growth opportunities it affords us. We are also pleased by the current support of stem cell research in Washington, D.C. and Congressional and state legislative focus on family stem cell banking legislation."

About Cord Blood America

SANTA MONICA, Calif. and LAS VEGAS, July 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cord Blood America, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: CBAI), one of the largest umbilical cord blood stem cell preservation companies (www.cordblood-america.com) focused on bringing the life saving potential of stem cells to families nationwide and internationally, announced today that its founder and CEO Matthew Schissler was featured on Monday in a television interview on KVVU Fox News Las Vegas, in which he discusses the 17,000 square foot facility in Las Vegas, Nevada that it recently leased to develop a state-of-the-art laboratory for the storage of multiple stem cell products including umbilical cord blood stem cells.

"Since we announced earlier this month that we had leased the Facility, there has been tremendous interest from parties in the Western United States in discussing opportunities to partner with the Company," said Mr. Schissler. "In addition to our current cord blood stem cell business, we are excited about having the capability to process and store multiple forms of stem cells, and expect to begin generating different revenue streams from the sale of these services in early 2010."

Cord Blood America Retires $2.53M Obligation

05.08.2009 11:01

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cord Blood America, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: CBAI) , the umbilical cord blood stem cell preservation company (www.cordblood-america.com/) focused on bringing the life saving potential of stem cells to families nationwide and internationally, said today it has retired $2.53M of long-term debt.

"The two notes signed in February and March of 2007 respectively, between CBAI and the Shelter Island Opportunity Fund (SIOF), have been retired as of August 3, 2009. With this debt retirement, CBAI has only the put option agreement obligation with SIOF remaining on its balance sheet. Cord Blood America regards this as a key milestone on its path to being able to operate debt free," said Matthew Schissler, Cord Blood America Founder and CEO. "Shelter Island provided us with the capital to purchase CorCell, which is the first licensed family cord blood banking company in the United States. Using their financing allowed us to establish CBAI as one of the largest domestic stem cell storage companies. Our obligation was to pay the notes in full before the February 28, 2010 maturity date. We are happy to have met the obligation and have saved a significant amount of interest payments because of early payoff."

"We have repeatedly said that decreasing debt would be one of our significant items to focus on in 2009," said Mr. Schissler. "Eliminating debt makes our financial balance sheet stronger and makes Cord Blood America a better investment. We are very pleased with this development."

Hi,

Gruss
