Beacon Power (BCON: news, msgs, alerts) led alternative energy stocks higher in afternoon action Friday. The group got a boost from a combination of factors, including the strong response to Global Power Equipment's (GEG: news, msgs, alerts) initial public offering, the deepening California energy crisis, and comments for President Bush that were viewed as positive for alternative technologies. Other upside movers included SatCon Technology (SCON: news, msgs, alerts) , H Power (HPOW: news, msgs, alerts) , Evergreen Solar (ESLR: news, msgs, alerts) , Plug Power (PLUG: news, msgs, alerts) , Mechanical Technology (MKTY: news, msgs, alerts) , and FuelCell Energy (FCEL: news, msgs, alerts) .

Fuel cell makers have watched their stock prices rise sharply in recent days as President Bush makes the details of his energy plan known, with several analysts are calling the proposals a plus for the alternative energy industry. FuelCell Energy (FCEL:Nasdaq - news) was up $5.41, or 6.3%, to $90.69 today, while Plug Power (PLUG:Nasdaq - news) jumped $4.32, or 14.8%, to $33.46 in recent Nasdaq trading. Ballard Power Systems (BLDP:Nasdaq - news) was up 0.7% to $57.84.    
In the last month the share prices of all three have gone up significantly. From April 18 to May 17, FuelCell has jumped 49%. Ballard has gained 26%, and Plug has climbed 27%. Christine Farkas, an analyst with Merrill Lynch, attributed the rally in the sector in the last few days to the president's game plan. "He certainly did discuss most of these technologies that we look at." She said the proposals boosted sentiment among investors because Bush, who is seen as pro-oil, mentioned a number of other forms of energy technologies in a recent presentation. However, she did note that Bush's plan hasn't become legislation yet. For the near term, Farkas said the fuel cell companies should continue to do well as continuing pressure to deliver energy will most likely increase in the coming months. "We're going into the summer, which is the blackout period," she said. "There will continue to be pressure on delivering energy. The sentiment could be positive, but the volatility will likely remain." David B. Smith, an analyst with Salomon Smith Barney, was surprised by Bush's recognition of alternate forms of energy. "The real surprise is that no one expected this much emphasis in a policy statement for alternate energy," Smith said. "The report was surprisingly favorable for alternative power technologies. He specifically said in the report that there's going to be a necessity in the near term to create a hydrogen economy." Still, Smith said he was surprised to see such a jump in the stocks. "I like the long-term stories but I would caution against trading on the short term," he said pointing to the "extreme volatility" in these stocks. While he said he doesn't think the plan will get passed in its current form, the fact that the government is acknowledging the need for alternative forms of energy is significant. "This policy is a great catalyst for these stocks to start moving," he said. "This is a great time to start buying these stocks, and the stocks are moving accordingly."

Ausserdem herrscht in diesem Board ja überwiegend "intellektuelle Inzucht"
, d.h. immer die selben mit den gleichen....und da halte ich mich bei anderen Diskussionen weitgehend heraus.

-der Wirtschaftsminister hält Atomkraftwerke für die beste Methode um sauberen Strom zu erzeugen
-zu guter letzt wird noch geplant in den Naturschutzgebieten Alaskas nach Öl zu bohren

Bush Push für alternative Energien - sehr witzig

Bush wird zusätzlich zu den in letzter Woche angedeuteten Förderprogrammen für Alternativ-Energien noch weitere dahingehende Vorschläge/Eingeständnisse machen  m ü s s e n , um seine Ölförder-/Atomkraftpläne gegenüber seinen Gegnern und der Öffentlichkeit durchsetzen zu können !

So ist Politik  ...... und so denken vorausschauende Anleger !

Automacherpush und nur in zweiter Linie vielleicht ein Pflaster für umweltschützende Gegner.
Autokäufer sollen, wenn es denn irgendwann mal BrennstoffzellenAutos gibt mit Steuererleichterungen rechnen können, im Umfang von 4 Milliarden Dollar.

Das Förderprogramm für alternative Energien hat 237 Mio Dollar zu Verfügung.

Dem vorausschauendem Anleger, blieb solches sicher nicht verborgen.
