Nachrichten der letzten Tage sind allesamt sehr positiv. Denke das Ballard als langfristiges Invest eine top Adresse sein wird.....ich bin dabei und freu mich auf die Zukunft :-)

In December 1999, California Construction Link magazine awarded the new Cal/EPA building "Best of 1999 Awards--Outstanding Engineering." Volkswagen AG Fuel Cell Automotive Research
Ballard's Director of Product Engineering, Sabina Russell, is steering delivery of a C$60-100 million 4-year Engineering Services contract (with an optional 2-year extension) to advance Volkswagen AG's fuel cell automotive research program.

Under Ms. Russell's guidance, skilled teams are working to support the current fleet of Volkswagen HyMotion demonstration cars, while also designing next-generation fuel cell technology for this leading automotive OEM. Ballard engineers are focused on the critical areas of fuel cell product design – including the membrane electrode assembly, plate and stack components – along with testing and system integration work.

Intellectual property (IP) generated under the contract will belong to Volkswagen, although Ballard will have a royalty-free license for use of that IP in non-automotive applications and in buses. Overall, the program provides a tremendous strategic opportunity for Ballard, enabling product development in both automotive as well as non-automotive sectors.

Continuous Power System
Ballard's Director of Fuel Cell Systems, Kathy Schwiebert, is leading Engineering Services work to develop a low cost continuous power system designed to initially provide electricity to the more than 3-million rural households in South Africa that are ‘off-grid'. Through continued support from Anglo American Platinum and an announcement of funding from the South African Government, this work on a ‘Home Generator' is proceeding on-track, with trial deployments planned for 2014.

Development of a low cost methanol fuel reformer and long life fuel cell stack for use in the Home Generator fall within the scope of this work activity. These attributes also offer the potential to –

• reduce the cost of Ballard's ElectraGen™-ME methanol-fueled Telecom Backup Power systems, which are commercially available today; and
• offer a ‘continuous power' alternative for use at off-grid telecom network sites.

Other Emerging Markets
Engineering Services are also providing Ballard with a fully funded means of exploring other emerging market opportunities, with the potential for significant long term impact. Dr. Kevin Colbow, Ballard's Director of Product Management, is leading Engineering Services work activities in a number of other emerging market areas, including diverse contracts in the aerospace and railway industries, along with military applications.

Under Dr. Colbow's leadership, Engineering Services contracts with lead customers are supporting fuel cell development work from initial feasibility study through to component design, infrastructure testing, reference system development and prototype field trials.

Summary
Over the past several years, Ballard has broadened Engineering Services activities in order to leverage the Company's expertise in fuel cell design, prototyping, manufacturing and servicing. The government is planning to cut support for electric cars and boost investment in hydrogen as it hedges its bets on future car technology.

A Department for Transport report, released last week, reveals that funding for low-emissions vehicles, which has so far been focused on electric cars, will now be spread more widely to support vehicles that run on hydrogen and natural gas.

Ministers plan to reduce the £5,000 subsidy given to buyers of new electric cars in 19 months, while changing the rules so that hydrogen vehicles can take advantage of the grants. They are also expected to help fund a national network of about 65 hydrogen refuelling stations.

The announcement comes after manufacturers including Toyota, Hyundai and Honda said they would launch hydrogen fuel-cell cars by 2015. A joint project between Ford, Mercedes, Renault and Nissan could see a further wave of hydrogen vehicles in 2017.

“Sales of fuel-cell vehicles could reach approximately 10,000 vehicles per annum by 2020. By 2030 there could be UK annual sales of 300,000,” the DfT said in its report, Driving the Future Today.

Sales of electric cars have been underwhelming since the subsidy was launched in 2011. Latest industry figures show that 2,000 electric cars were registered between January and August this year, representing 0.14% of all new-car sales.

The DfT insisted its strategy does not signal that it is abandoning support for battery-powered cars, on which it has already spent tens of millions of pounds in the form of grants, subsidies and infrastructure projects.

:38PM Ballard Power and Consortium partners awarded U.S. FTA funding for deployment of fuel cell buses (BLDP) 1.58 -0.07 : The co and its consortium partners have received approximately $6.7 million in funding from the U.S. Federal Transit Administration (FTA) under the National Fuel Cell Bus Program for the deployment of two next-generation fuel cell buses as well as for extended operation of two existing Ballard-powered buses. The awards were announced by Peter Rogoff, Federal Transit Administrator during a public event held at BAE Systems offices in Endicott, New York.
