BOSTON, Jun 7, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Artificial Life Inc. (Nasdaq:ALIF) announced today the release of its latest product the ALife-Knowledge Editor(TM) 1.0 for July 2000. This product is an editing tool to make knowledge base development easier and more streamlined. This new ALife product allows an average computer user to build, modify, and maintain even huge corporate knowledge bases with a user friendly and intuitive interface.

Most Artificial Life products rely on knowledge bases for intelligence and personality in order to carry out the functions for which they have been programmed. ALife-Knowledge Editor provides a common interface for rapidly creating and deploying knowledge bases that can be used jointly by all ALife smart bots. Unlike other systems that require knowledge of a scripting language or a software developer's expertise, ALife's technology lets an average user create knowledge bases. ALife-Knowledge Editor also makes it easy for users to test bots and provides easy-to-follow signposts that lead directly to any trouble spots in the knowledge base.

Features of ALife-Knowledge Editor 1.0

Graphical Representation: a simple, intuitive graphical user interface to help create and edit knowledge bases.

Drag-and-drop dialogue creation: drag and drop pre-programmed questions and answers inside an elegant Dialogue Builder.

Pattern libraries for easy re-use: store an unlimited number of question and answer patterns so that dialogue patterns can be defined once and reused. The knowledge editor also ships with a basic library of English and German patterns.

Swappable knowledge structure: avoid duplication of work by using the ALife Knowledge Editor to use knowledge bases for multiple projects.

Universal compatibility: ALife-Knowledge Editor is compatible with ALife bot knowledge base structures. Special features or behaviors that don't apply to a particular bot are automatically filtered out in order to compile a streamlined version for a particular bot. A single knowledge base can be universally accessible by all bots.

Backwards compatibility: ALife Knowledge Editor is backwards compatible with all older versions of ALife bot knowledge bases.

Multiple language support: The knowledge editor can be used to build knowledge bases in any major language, including Chinese or Japanese.

Parallel work in multiple languages: ALife Knowledge Editor lets the user define input patterns and bot outputs in different languages side-by-side, allowing bots to draw on one knowledge base. The number and choice of languages is unlimited.

Group collaboration: multiple users can work on the same project simultaneously and securely.

Knowledge base templates: The template-based format makes it easy to develop scripts for multiple products and services, even multiple languages.

Built in Test Tools: A built in testing environment hasten the time to deployment. Knowledge bases can be tested within the editor without the need to test with live bots.

Publishing Feature: Knowledge bases may be quickly published directly from the Editor to the machine that is hosting the bots.

ALife-Knowledge Editor is scheduled for release at the end of July 2000.
