(AP) -- Lexar Media Inc., a maker of flash-memory cards, on Thursday posted a smaller second-quarter loss after logging higher sales and a hefty gain from a settlement with a supplier. However, a weak outlook dragged down Lexar's stock in late trading. Shares fell 6 cents to close at $5.37 on the Nasdaq, and sank another 41 cents, or 7.6 percent, to $4.96 in after-hours activity. The company said quarterly losses narrowed to $5.1 million, or 6 cents per share, from $18.1 million, or 23 cents, the year before. The latest quarter includes an unspecified settlement gain. Revenue rose 16 percent to $189.3 million from $163.2 million a year earlier. Product sales grew 16 percent to $188.3 million, while license revenue and royalties dropped 12 percent to $954,000. On average, analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial were looking for a loss of 15 cents per share and sales of $200 million. Eric Stang, Lexar's chairman, president and chief executive, said the company reduced its inventory levels by 23 percent from the first quarter and cut legal expenses by more than 10 percent sequentially. Looking ahead, Stang said Lexar is expecting lower retail prices for higher-capacity products in the third quarter, and predicts its revenue and quarterly loss should be similar with the second quarter.
