Digital River and Identix are First to Deliver Fingerprint Network Security Online
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 31, 1999--
Biometric Security Software Downloadable from www.Identicator.com and over 1000 E-Commerce Storefronts
Identix Incorporated (AMEX:IDX), a leading provider worldwide of biometric verification and live-scan systems, and Minneapolis-based Digital River (Nasdaq:DRIV) jointly announced today that they are the first in e-commerce to offer for delivery network security fingerprint identification software and hardware products online.
Through the Identix IT Security Division, Identicator Technology, Inc., IT professionals and individual users have the ability to download the industry's foremost fingerprint identification software suite, BioLogon(tm), and obtain Key Tronic (Nasdaq:KTCC) or SCN Micro (Nasdaq:SCMM) biometric hardware readers in quantity-priced keyboard and mouse options.
Digital River President Perry Steiner said, "With the high profile for network and Internet security escalating, we were anxious to lead e-commerce delivery of biometric fingerprint security products. Identix's security identification biometric products are at the forefront of commercial IT network security and critical to the future of Internet and e-commerce security."
Digital River, the world-wide leader in digital commerce outsourcing, will manage e-commerce purchases and delivery for Identix's hardware and software products from the Identix IT Security Division web site, www.Identicator.com, and across the network of storefronts that Digital River manages for more than 1000 online retailers.
Identix's BioLogon software can be downloaded from www.Identicator.com or from other e-commerce storefronts, including Outpost.com, CompUSA, Staples, Kmart, Wal-Mart and Softwarehouse.com. A buyer keys on "BUY" and specifies an option for Identix's client/server software and hardware products packaged and priced from under $100 to $149.95 per unit, depending on the hardware and quantity selected.
Identix IT Security Division Vice President and General Manager Grant Evans commented, "In this unprecedented move to e-commerce, we have made the leading network security fingerprint biometric systems available and affordable for everyone. Industry and individual users are demanding security that provides positive identification, maximum control and easy use. In one year, the Identix IT Security Division, Indenticator, alone shipped more biometric security systems than the whole industry ever had. Now, we can respond to demand with immediate online delivery."
Identix's BioLogon software is designed to replace PINS or passwords with fingerprint identification for system and network access. It enables file and e-mail encryption, and locking and unlocking of e-mails, files, applications or websites by the authorized user. For network administrators, BioLogon provides easy to use management tools for implementing and deploying strict security policies over the network to individuals, user groups and individual workstations. Multi-factor authentication can be utilized for more security, combining user names with smart cards and biometrics.
Identix's BioLogon software links to the fingerprint reader or scanner integrated into a PC peripheral device such as a keyboard or mouse unit. The reader captures the image, the software then processes the image and extracts the fingerprint features (called minutia), encrypts the template and interfaces with other industry accepted security technology such as PKI's and SSL technology and stores the information.
The system verifies and authenticates the user by comparing the captured image to the image stored in the template. Then the system provides the security service called upon in the application, such as network access, application lock or encryption service.
E-commerce buyers of Identix biometric security systems will be registered licensees of BioLogon IDSafe(R) software. Licensee information, stored by Digital River, will be used to inform registrants of new network and e-commerce security options as they become available.
