Toronto, Ontario CANADA, December 12, 2006 /FSC/ - Vedron Gold announces drill results from exploration drilling recently completed in the South Mine area of the Buffalo Ankerite Property. Ten holes, totalling 1484.2 metres were completed. The results, including
1.81 grams Au per tonne over 22.31 metres,
2.47 grams Au per tonne over 9.72 metres and
5.23 grams Au per tonne over 2.38 metres, are from a programme designed to test below previous drilling by Placer Dome.
The property is now 100% controlled by Vedron Gold.
The results continue to indicate open-pit potential, and to expand the near surface gold mineralization in the South Mine area of the Buffalo Ankerite property.
The programme extended the known depth of gold mineralization (as drilled by Placer Dome, 2001-2003) from less than 100 metres to 175 metres below surface. Vedron is presently updating the gold mineral inventory outlined by Placer Dome for the South Mine area.
Highlights:
* VBA06-61 assayed 5.23 grams Au per tonne over 2.38 metres
* VBA06-63 assayed 3.17 grams Au per tonne over 5.55 metres
* VBA06-66 assayed 2.14 grams Au per tonne over 12.77 metres including 2.62 grams Au over 9.3 metres
* VBA06-70 assayed 1.81 grams Au per tonne over 22.31 metres including 3.17 grams Au over 8.3 metres
* Near surface, wide spread gold mineralization now delineated over a strike length of 1400 metres to a depth of 175 metres, indicating favourable open pit potential over a 600 metre interval - zones remain open at depth and along strike
The drill holes tested east to west trending gold zones that are located in the South Mine area of the Buffalo Ankerite Mine which saw historical production of 1,018,000 gold ounces between 1926 and 1953 (Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, Buffalo Ankerite & Ankerite March listings). The property continues to hold significant potential to explore and develop both surface mineable and deeper, down dip gold mineralization. The gold mineralized zones trend to the west from the Ankerite March Mine on the south and east side of the property for an estimated distance of 1,400 metres to the Aunor Mine property boundary.
Vedron exploration programmes have delineated near surface gold mineralization within a favourable alteration structure that crosses the south portion of the Buffalo Ankerite Property for a strike length of 1,400 metres. The drill holes intersected a number of rock types including ultramafic volcanic, porphyry, conglomerate and mafic volcanic rock, the main host rock of former gold production. Mineralized quartz tourmaline breccia and/or quartz vein system hosted within pervasive sericite-ankerite altered volcanic sequences was intersected in all of the drill holes. Alteration and mineralization is similar to that found at the Dome and Aunor Mines as well as the Buffalo Ankerite Mine.
All exploration work was conducted under Kenneth Guy, P. Geo., designated Qualified Person for Vedron Gold, who has reviewed the this press release. Gold analysis of samples collected by Vedron were assayed by Laboratoire Expert in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. Analysis consisted of a fire assay of a 30-gram sample with an atomic absorption finish. Samples assaying over 1.0 gram per tonne Au are re-assayed with gravimetric finish. Samples noted to contain visible gold are analyzed via total metallic assay method. A rigorous Quality Control and Assurance program (QA/QC) is in place, using control samples such as Blanks and Rocklabs Standards and duplicate checks. In addition, duplicate analyses of 10% of the samples were corroborated by check assays on sample performed by Bourlamaque Laboratory of Val D'Or, Quebec.
