3Dlabs Selected by Microsoft for New Generation Windows CE Reference Platform
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 2002--
3Dlabs Graphics Processors Accelerate Windows CE .NET Media Capabilities; 3Dlabs Embedded IP Licensing Program Enables High-volume Integrated Graphics Solutions
3Dlabs(R), Inc. Ltd. (Nasdaq:TDDD), announced today that Microsoft is including 3Dlabs' graphics driver in the newly announced Windows CE .NET. Announced at this week's Consumer Electronic Show, Windows CE .NET is a robust and reliable embedded operating system designed to build the next generation of smart mobile devices.
3Dlabs is shipping a PCI graphics solution that enables Windows CE .NET developers to rapidly experiment and integrate accelerated 2D, 3D and rich-media processing into Windows CE .NET-based applications. Through its embedded graphics division, 3Dlabs is offering Permedia 3 silicon and a range of graphics IP cores for integration into high-volume Windows CE .NET-based products.
Microsoft and 3Dlabs have cooperated closely to implement a reference driver for 3Dlabs' graphics architecture, which is integrated into the Windows CE .NET DDK. Permedia 3-class graphics acceleration provides a high level of graphics performance and functionality available in the Windows CE .NET reference platform.
The 3Dlabs Windows CE .NET Graphics Reference Development Board, an Oxygen(R) VX1 PCI board with 32MB of memory, is available immediately for $225 on the 3Dlabs electronic store at
www.3dlabs.com. Any hardware developers interested in exploring the use of 3Dlabs silicon or IP cores should contact 3Dlabs' embedded graphics division at embedded.graphics@3dlabs.com.
"The demand for Windows Powered multimedia devices continues to grow, and 3Dlabs is providing high-performance technology to help our mutual customers meet this need," said Scott Horn, director of the Embedded and Appliance Platforms Group at Microsoft Corp. "The combination of rich multimedia functionalities found in Windows CE .NET and 3Dlabs' Permedia 3-class graphics reference platform enables developers to deliver Windows CE .NET-based devices that feature high- performance 2D and 3D graphics for use in the next generation of smart mobile devices."
"It has been a long-standing goal of 3Dlabs to expand the availability of advanced visual processing on a wide range of embedded displays and appliances, and Windows CE .NET is helping to make this vision a reality," said Neil Trevett, senior vice president of market development for 3Dlabs. "We expect the combination of the built-in support in Windows CE .NET for our graphics technology, together with its availability as both chips and cores, to make 3Dlabs' visual acceleration popular among developers integrating the most advanced embedded devices."
