Der asiatische Markt für Computerspiele hat eine markante Besonderheit: Die Spieler zahlen zwar ohne mit der Wimper zu zucken ordentliche Preise, aber nicht etwa für die Originale, sondern für Raubkopien. Der Spielemarkt in Fernost bestehe zu einem Großteil aus Duplikaten, berichten uns Branchenkenner. Aus dieser skurrilen Gegebenheit will der Düsseldorfer Börsenneuling GDC (Game and Download Company), seit August gelistet und kürzlich erstmals in Frankfurt auf Roadshow unterwegs, Profit schlagen. Eine neue Downloadtechnologie der operativen GDC-Tochter Awomo.com soll vielen Spieleherstellern als wirksamer Kopierschutz dienen.
Der Clou an der Sache: Nur ein Teil der Software wird anfangs auf den Computer des Spielers geladen. Der Rest liegt auf Awomo-Servern und wird – je nach Spielefortschritt – später nachgeladen. Damit wird es unmöglich, ein komplettes Spiel als Raubkopie auf DVD zu brennen. Nach zwei Millionen Euro Umsatz in diesem Jahr und einem Verlust in etwa gleicher Höhe will Firmenchef Nils Herrnberger 2012 mehr als 86 Millionen Euro erlösen und sechs Millionen Gewinn einspielen. 2013 soll sich der Umsatz noch einmal verdoppeln und der Profit erneut verdreifachen. Derart stattliche Planzahlen sind seit den Zeiten des Neuen Markts selten geworden.
Ähnlich selbstbewusst präsentierte sich auch Dale Scott Marion, Vorstandschef des kanadischen Unternehmens Xelleon mit Hauptsitz auf der Isle of Man, der zufällig am selben Tag in Frankfurt auf Investorensuche war. Xelleon hat eine Technologie entwickelt, um Musik-, Software- und eben auch Spiele-Downloads wasserdicht zu machen. Damit würde es im Schnitt eine Million Jahre dauern, bis ein asiatischer Hacker sich durchgewurstelt hat – ein bisschen viel Aufwand für ein Musikstück im Wert von vielleicht 50 Cent.
