Operators making money on Opera Mini: Two million users surf 4 million Web pages every day
Oslo, Norway – April 6, 2006
Opera Software's new mobile Web browser, Opera Mini, has attracted two million users around the world. While every user does not browse every day, the daily number of Web pages surfed with Opera Mini exceeds four million, proving the browser has become very popular among mobile phone owners. After Opera Mini's compression, the average Web page size is between 10 and 20 kilobytes. With the current usage, Opera Mini's users generate between 38 and 76 gigabytes of data traffic every day, providing a healthy revenue stream for operators. Opera Mini can dramatically boost operators' ARPU and increase the market demand for data-packages.

Since T-Mobile started offering Opera Mobile to deliver the full Internet on their smartphones in 2005, the mobile browser has proven itself to be a compelling revenue booster. During the first few months after the launch of web'n'walk in June 2005, an average web'n'walk customer was visiting 330 Internet pages per month. This resulted in an increase of 489 percent in data volume per user and 119 percent of data ARPU (excl. SMS) per user. T-Mobile will now offer Opera Mini on their high-volume feature phones, providing full Web access and increasing ARPU across their entire customer segment.

“Smartphone owners have already shown the potential of full Internet services to boost ARPU,„ said Tony Cripps, Wireless Software Analyst, Ovum. “Now mobile operators can extend that option across their customer base and free users from the confines of the walled garden.”

“Opera Mini is making a big impact on the entire mobile value chain,” says Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “Operators can increase their ARPU while mobile phone users can surf the Web on their phones. We are also seeing a lot of interest from mobile content providers, online newspapers and companies, such as Pricerunner.com, that want to give their users mobile access to their Web sites and services.”

Opera Software continues to offer branded or regular versions of Opera Mini to operators, handset manufacturers, content providers and other companies that want to offer a Web browser to their customers.

Even bigger in Japan: Opera on ten 3G handsets from KDDI

Oslo, Norway – May 22, 2006

Opera Software and Japan's largest 3G operator, KDDI, today announced that Opera Software's Mobile browser will be shipped on five new mobile phones in KDDI's featured summer series. Opera Mobile has previously been included on five KDDI models in 2006, including the recently announced, WiFi-enabled Sanyo E02SA. With the inclusion of KDDI's summer series, Opera Mobile will have been a key application on ten KDDI 3G handsets so far in 2006.

The Opera Mobile browser will be included on the following BREW-based devices for KDDI's summer series: Sanyo W33SA II, Sony-Ericsson W42S, Casio W42CA, Hitachi W42H and Toshiba W44T. This follows the announcement of the Opera Mobile browser so far in 2006 on the Hitachi W41H, Casio W41CA, Sony-Ericsson W41S, Toshiba W43T and Sanyo E02SA.

“We recognize that our users demand a superior product that offers them an unsurpassed browsing experience,” says Hiroyuki Sakaniwa, Group Leader, Application Platform Group, Product Management Department, “au” Service & Product Planning Division “au” Business Sector, KDDI. “That is why we have selected the Opera Mobile browser.”

The new summer series handsets will include enhanced browser features such as a password manager, portal search directly from the UI, and performance improvements. The Sanyo E02SA, will be the first mobile device from KDDI designed specifically for corporate clients and can be used both as a telephone for making calls using VoIP, and as a mobile phone.

“The Japanese market is setting the standard for mobile technology,” says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “KDDI's commitment to continue to include Opera on their new handsets is a testament to KDDI's focus on quality.”

The 3G network in Japan is growing steadily with approximately 40 million subscribers. With 2G being phased out of the Japanese market, Opera recognizes the demand for its advanced browsing solutions to enable advanced 3G Web services.

Bill Raduchel joins Opera's Board

Oslo, Norway – July 6, 2006

Opera Software today announced that William J. Raduchel has joined its Board of Directors. The accomplished IT-industry veteran strengthens Opera's board with his experience from companies including AOL, AOL Time Warner, Sun Microsystems, Xerox and McGraw-Hill. Raduchel's key contribution to Opera's future will be his thorough understanding of how the areas of technology, media and information are merging.

"I've been familiar with Opera Software for more than 10 years and I've always admired the company's vision" says Bill Raduchel. "Opera is leading the way in defining how content will be distributed on devices."

Raduchel shared Opera's vision of the mobile Web as far back as in 1999. In an interview with IDG in April 1999, while Sun's Chief Strategy Officer, he predicted that "The most important Net access device in 2005 will be cell phones". His vision has become a reality in countries such as Korea and Japan, while other regions are quickly picking up pace.

Starting his multifaceted career as an economics professor at Harvard University, Raduchel has gained wide-ranging experience from the fields of business, finance, media and technology. He held executive positions at Xerox and McGraw Hill prior to joining Sun Microsystems where he spent 11 years as Chief Strategy Officer, Chief Information Officer in addition to a range of other positions. He joined AOL in September 1999 as Chief Technology Officer and held the same position at AOL Time Warner after the merger. During this time InfoWorld named him CTO of the year.

Mr. Raduchel left AOL Time Warner at the end of 2002 to become an independent director, angel investor and strategic advisor. From May of 2004 until recently, he was chairman of the board of Ruckus Network, a digital entertainment network for students, serving also as CEO during much of this time. Mr. Raduchel is also a director at additional IT-related corporations, ranging from new start-ups to public companies.

"I spent three years at AOL TimeWarner learning how the media and technology sectors are integrating. Opera is right at the center of that space. I will be able to bring my experience and significant understanding of current trends to Opera's Board," says Bill Raduchel.

"Bill's expertise is invaluable to Opera Software. He provides crucial insight on how Opera can leverage its leadership in providing seamless cross-device access to the Web and other services," says Jon S. von Tetzchner, Opera Software CEO.

In its Annual General Meeting held on June 15, 2006, Opera Software's shareholders also approved Nils A. Foldal as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mr. Foldal is the investment director in A. Wilhelmsen Capital AS and is represented in several boards in venture funds and technology companies in Norway. In addition, Ole Peter Lorentzen was voted in as a new member of the Board.

3. Kompatibilität dieser verschiedenen Visualisierungen. Eine "Website" für alle Geräte! Opera hat die Lösung dafür. Server richten die Seiten entsprechent Online her!
